we have had our husky for about 7weeks in which we have found he is timid and afraid of almost eveything and likes to be outside all of the time he as good recall when he thinks its in his best interest.ie time for walk or treat. and he has now started weeing and pooing on the floor after we go to bed, we have not told him off, but we have been trying to retrain him he is 2 1/2 years old and we dont know alot about his back ground, any ideas please

it will take a lot of time and patience.  good on you for giving the dog a chance.  just go back to basics like you would a puppy with housetraining.  the toilet during the night could be a sign of stress at his new environment.  where is he sleeping???  is he in a room with you??  do you know if he was part of a pack before he came to you???  he may like your company more than you think and is upset when you go to bed if he is on his own.  you are right not to give him a row.  he is probably just a bit confused about his new home.  is this your first husky??

it worries me that you are saying he has good recall.  i would advise you not to allow him off lead when out on walks.  you hit the nail on the head when you said he comes back when there is something of interest for him.  huskies as a general rule should NOT be let off the lead in unenclosed areas.  i would be doubly worried with a dog who is still settling in and who is wary of people. huskies are very bad for running off and getting into all sorts of bother.  enclosed tennis courts or walled gardens are ideal for letting them off.  if you are talking about his recall in the garden i apologise and you can ignore the above

Thanks so much for your reply, no we never let him off the lead but saying that he jumped out of the car only 10 days after we got him and was very lucky to get him back after hours of looking for him on foot and in the car, we now have a boot lead for him, we have lots of time and patience for him. Hes a very loving dog we also take him out on the bike so he realy gets to use his legs and he loves it, This is are first husky and welcome any information, we did read up on husky before we got him and he is the ideal for for us but we still have a lot to learn

i'm sure he will turn out to be a fantastic pet with owners like you willing to give him the chance he needs.  taking him out on the bike is a great way to exercise him. (whats his name? )  they love to run in harness!  he will take time to feel comfortable with you and his new home.  do you have any info at all about his background???

Hi no infor on his past,we take him out in a basic blue harness we got from the pet shop and his name is zeus. he was under weight when we got him but is now eating well and putting on weight, and we had a health check done and had the all clear from the vets. we had him check for a mico chip none was found.becks

Yes! you can make the husky a pet, but! it will be hard work, start just like you would a pup.
They are quite intelligent dogs, His life has just been turned upside down, with loads
of new expectations. Keep at it, it will be worth it in the end.

Welcome! your in good company! (lots of Sibe owners here) and as you've probably noticed lots of other breed owners brains to pick :D
   And your not alone Many Sibes get rehomed around the same age as your boy,some first time owners find they cant cope or have taken on more than they realised and have to rehome but also as most Sibes are kept in packs,squabbles that break out in the pack can lead to the rehoming of a dog...
   Also many Sibes that have been kept outside get brought in when they get in to old age.... so there is a proven track record of dogs making the transition from kennel to the house. And the good news they are very good at making this transition, so fear not..its not going to be as bad as you might fear! :D
    As everyones suggested it is I'm afraid a case of going back to basics for now and treating his toilet training as if he were a pup...so you are going to have to break the time from going to bed to waking up with some getting up for 'wee & poo' time (joy!!!? :D) but it wont be for long..so be patient, it'll be more than worth it in the long when you will get to a whole nights sleep and clean floors!
     Dont forget to make sure you clean up properly if he has 'gone' in the house,any trace of smell left he'll pick up on and go again there. (put toilet training in search to find out what best to use to clean and how to,there's loads of good info on previous threads,I wont waffle on,in case you know already!)
       Sibes are generally not regarded as 'adults' til they are 3 years old, you have time to turn him around,and you'll find as he settles he'll be eager to please Sibes like to fit into routine.And they're much more cunning than they'll let on sometimes ;) rest assured he will be taking everything in! they dont miss a trick :)
     Our Current Sibe was a rescue,7 months down the line Im amazed when I look back at just how much he has settled,developed and turned into an amazing dog in a relatively short time, its a great reward when you see the difference for the better :D

I got a new adult Malamute just after the New Year and he had only ever lived outside but is managing very well with us in the madhouse :)
