Help!  My papillon yaps constantly when in the garden.  He rushes out, looks up in air then proceeds to yap at any poor passing bird.  If there's no birds to yap at then he looks across the river and finds something else to yap at there.  I've never had a pap so bad.  I know little dogs are known for yapping but this one's beyond a joke.  I just don't know what to do to stop him.  It's not possible for me to go outside with him every time he needs to go out, neither is it possible for me to fence off a section of patio to restrict him (the patio is 4 feet higher than the garden).  Our other dogs (a collie and a whippet) are no problem.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello,
We had the same problem with our BC so we put a bark collar on before we let him out. It stopped him barking and now we don't need to use anything.
I use an aboistop bark collar. I did try a cheaper one but it did not go off when my dog barked, only if I barked into it
Good luck, I know that a barking dog can be very frustrating

one of my rough collies years ago used to bark at planes that left the stream behind they were like a dot in the sky but if they flew over low never bothered ....wierd

Maybe he just loves to be outside if you let him out more often he may get bored and stop!

(not suggesting that you dont..by the way)

What do you do to stop him barking? Do you take him out and leave him out, or are you out with him? I'd find a way of distracting him. Try making a noise, then give him something to take his mind off the birds. I don't like the use of artificial controllers. Dogs bark for a reason and I'd hate to stop min from barking. I've taught mine to shut up when told. They still bark, but not as much. :)
