could anybody please tell me what is needed for taking a pup out of britain to Mallorca

I have been and am still looking for a British Bulldog puppy, I can get them here but do not trust the breeders and have been told by 1 vet that most come from puppy farms, this is why i am looking at getting one from the uk, this is where i get stuck as i do not know if a passport is needed for a puppy to leave the uk.

any help would be gratefully recieved

I should think thata lot of the good breeders in this country will be horrified by what your vet has said.  Most vets just don't like the breed as they seem to think they all have health problems which of course is untrue!

Isn't the poster talking about breeders in her own country that is why she is coming to UK for one?

Firstly, do you ever intend to bring the dog back to the UK?  (Say on holiday, or for visits to family, or maybe moving back to the UK one day?)

If so, you definitely need a Pet Passport. 

If not, you probably don't.  But you might want to get one anyway, just in case - not much trouble and you then can bring the dog back if you ever want to, with minimal fuss.

Mallorca falls under the Balearic Islands, which is one of the EU recognised/accepted places for the Pet Passport scheme.

You need to investigate the requirements which Mallorca has for importing dogs - the country the dog is entering and their requirements are always more important to check out than where the dog is coming from.  (Simply because the dog is already in the UK, so the UK aren't going to be placing any requirements on it being here - but the dog is going to Mallorca, so you need to check out their requirements.)

The process is: You (or the UK breeder) would get the pup microchipped and vaccinated for rabies at 12 wks old.  (The microchip can be done before this but the rabies vaccine cannot be done before 12 wks.) 

Then, you wait a few weeks (your vet will tell you how long) before returning to the vet for a blood test to see if the vaccine worked.  If the blood test is ok (almost all are) then you can export the pup under the Pet Passport scheme immediately. 

The rule is that you cannot bring the pup BACK to the UK until 6 months from the date of the successful blood test.  But that doesn't really apply to you, since you don't want to bring it back anyway (and not within 6 months).

So, you could get your pup to Mallorca around 16 wks, if you go that route.

If you decide that you don't care about the Pet Passport scheme because you don't think you want to bring the pup back to the UK, then he could be exported at the age which most pups leave their mum - subject to whatever the Mallorcan restrictions are on importing dogs.  (Ie - Mallora might say you have to have a current rabies jab - in which case you could just get the jab done and not bother with the blood test which is part of the Pet Passport scheme, so not have to wait the extra weeks for the blood test to be taken, and still have the pup at the usual age he leaves his mum.)

If you then decided in future that you actually did want to bring him back to the UK, you could always go through the Pet Passport scheme from Mallorca to bring him back.

You should also take care of your route, because bulldogs I believe could have breathing difficulties if flown and so some airlines might refuse to fly them.

There is confusion over the EU Pet Passport now required to move animals around the EU, and the UK Pet Travel Scheme provisions, which we all called the Pet Passport.

Both documents are now combined, but the Pet Travel Scheme requirements are only needed if the owner wishes to bring it back into UK.

When I exported pups to Spain and Holland last year they both needed Pet Passports.  Neither country required the Pup to be chipped, a Tattoo was acceptable.

One went with just Tattoo (Holland) as the new owner wanted to chip herself with their own chips registered with a Dutch database.

The one that went to Spain had both chip and tattoo, and the new owner will be getting him his Rabies shots and then the blood test for when she travels back to UK for family holiday in the summer.

As the pups were under 12 weeks old they did not require any vaccinations, and we all prefered they were vaccinated by their owners vets using one product.

You have tocheck what the local requirements are fro bringing the dog in.  Holland didn't need much, but Spain needed to know the pups full details where bred etc, and issued permission to the new owner to bring pup in.
