Hi all some of you will know we have a little pup who is fighting to stay alive. Today it seemed to be stronger and to be gaining weight, we thought wed turned a corner.
Anyway we sat down to tea having just checked on the pups. About 5 mins later my 10 year old daughter went to look as 1 of the pups was making a fuss. It had strayed a little from the others. Well Sophie noticed part of the little pup poking out from under Star. She picked her and she was dead.
She came running in carrying the pup crying.
Eddie (my husband) took the pup and massaged it and gently blew in its mouth. Slowly it came round. Now Im no cruel person and there is nothing I want more than for this liitle fighter to live. But part of me wants the little thing out of pain.
Would it have been kinder to let her go. Now 4 hours on its still here but desperately fighting to stay with us. It is breathing heavy and keeps gasping. Eddie as been nursing it ever since and says he will stay with it all through the night.
I dont know what to do for the best. Is it ok to carry on feeding it will this do more harm than god?. He as fed it but only tiny drips and this was about 2 hours after the episode.
We have called the pup Hope and if she does pull through I think we will keep her although we wasnt going to keep any at all.
I'm sorry I can't help with the decision you have to make, but I am sure that whatever you do will be carefuly considered and you should have no regrets.
Will be thinking about you tonight
Poor little thing - sound like its in very good caring hands. My thoughts are also with you tonight. I think your daughter is very brave, I have a 12 year old daughter and cant imagine how upset she would be given the circumstances. Best wishes

I hope that Hope pulls through but after going through this myself on quite a few occassions with my Pomeranian's I'm afraid to say that the chances of her surviving will be slim. Also you won't be too sure how long she was out for and if there was any lack of oxygen for some time.
I've got everything crossed though for you and Hope.
Take care.

Very sad news but your daughter is to be congratulated on her courage and quick reactions. I can't say what's best for Hope but I'm sure that if fate intends her to pull through she will. If not then I'm sure there are probably very sound medical reasons why this little one had such a brief time with you. Best of luck and regards to you all.
I have everything crossed for you and Eddy :-) I hope and pray that Hope pulls through, congratulations to Sophie :-)

Keep trying as long as the puppy does. If she's fighting to stay alive, do your best for her. It really doesn't sound good, but I've seen several seemingly hopeless cases survive to be healthy adults. If you give up, you'll only feel guilty. Remember the puppy doesn't know anything else at the moment, so pain is relative. Also puppies nervous systems are not fully formed when born and a lot of movement is reflex for the first week or so. The puppy probably isn't suffering like an older pup would as it's not physically aware as yet.
Good luck and I'll keep you all in my thoughts -p lease let us know what happens.
what does your vet say (it doesn't cost anything for a phone call).

I hope the little one pulls through , do give us an update when you can .
Im very sad to say the little pup died around 6am this morning. She put up a brave fight for 12 hours but sadly was not strong enough.
I know it was ment to be and now she is not in pain.
We burried her with Sheena our dog who died 3 months ago.
RIP Hopexxx
I'm so sorry, how sad. It's horrible to lose a puppy, but it was meant to be.
Enjoy your remaining pups
With best wishes

So sad to hear Hope has lost her brave fight :(
Run free little girl.
I know how you feel, we have just lost one too, she was so perfect, it is so sad when they fight to live and still don't make it. Life isn't always fair. At least there is no more pain. We all still cried buckets and called her Crystal, my boy carried her around for ages saying bye bye to her. We can be upset together.

How sad. But at least you gave the baby the best possible chance. It's amazing how attached you get when you have to get involved and feed them.
So sorry to hear this.
Sleep tight, little Hope.
