Hello,
Could someone please reccommend a suitable bottle and teats to bottle feed GSP sized puppies, and let me know where I can obtain them.
I have a copy of 'The Book Of The Bitch', and it recommends a Belcroy Premature Baby Feeder for medium sized breeds, but I can't find this anywhere, I've googled it, and it just comes up with matches on ebay, but none of the products actually turned out to be a feeder (and I'd rather have new).
Or, on the other hand, am I being over cautious? Thought it would be handy, just in case, along with the other whelping supplies.
Would hate to have to call the vet at midnight and ask for hand rearing equipment (especially if they don't have it!!!)!
Thanks in advance.

I use an eye dropper for feeding small pups, if needed, and either Lactol or Welpie, another tip for you, I always use face cloths to help dry pups off, they are easier to wrap up a pup in to get it dry and Mum is usually licking the face whilst i'm drying the pup. I put the face cloths over my ch radiator so they are nice and warm for a wet pup that is cold. You can use as many as 3 facecloths per pup so buy in quite a few and they are not expensive.
Hi K
You could try asking at your vet's.
Last time I had a litter, I had a small baby bottle available, just in case, with a teat that looked about the size of my bitch's teats. Glad to say I didn't need it, but I think you're wise to be organised, just in case. I had supplies of Royal Canin's puppy milk, better value than Whelpi (Sp) but it was some time ago, so you need to be sure the milk is suitable for baby pups. My bitch enjoyed the milk as a supplement and I used it when I weaned the pups.
Best of luck with the whelping - when is she due?
Hello Ridgielover,
Next Friday (had an interesting New Year!!!!). Have most of what I need (I hope!), but thought it advisible to get every thing else today, otherwise am sure to need it at about 3am Sunday morning!!
May be on this site quite a bit in the coming weeks!! And thank you to the other person who suggested the face cloths for drying the pups, brilliant idea! Have tons of towels washed ready, but can now see they would be far too cumbersome.

Hi
I had great success using Mam ultivent feeding bottle on my Basset pups. They have orthodontic vented shaped teats.
Got mine from Mothercare.
If you do have to use them................remember to burp the puppy.

I've never managed to find a Belcroy feeder either. Catac feeders are easily available and I have one in case of a very tiny puppy. For my breed (deerhounds) I use a normal small baby bottle with premaure baby ortodontic silicone teats, and this works very well indeed.

I use small baby teats for my breed that are born at an average of 10 -12oz (range 8oz to over a pound). Never got on with any of the puppy ones.
I use the little 2 1/2oz bottles if you can find them.
Hya, yes got to agree, I used normal baby bottles when I had to hand feed Pepsis puppies. The bottles provided by the vets were just too small and they would'nt suckle them.

My large hound breed have done really well on Superdrug bottles/teats surprisingly enough!! Another thing I highly recommend is go to your local farm supplies & buy one of those large rolls of blue paper for wiping dairy cows udders with

They are fabulous & we couldnt live without them.....they do everything from cleaning up puppy poos to cleaning the bath!!!
