Sorry if I am being a pest but I have found this site a godsend. Roxy is now on day 63 and I am really bored with waiting now. I think I expected her to have them early as she has been agitated now for a good week or so. Which now I know is just part of the pregnancy. Its just that now her spine is really prominent and looks awful is this perfectly normal? She looks all skinny on top and fat underneath. She just stands for ages staring and breathing heavy which she has been doing for days now. Oh I just can't wait any longer. I have sat for hours rubbing her belly and feeling the pups moving around, I think its time they came out and played now. This waiting is awful. Anybody had experience with welping boxers and if they are generally on time. I have read loads but would love to hear your personal experiences. Please talk to me I am so bored with this waiting.
Hi lottieloulou
I don't mean to worry you, but I have bred a few litters of RRs, and although my bitches have got uncomfortable towards the end of their pregnancy (first litter had 15 puppies!!) they have never just stood for ages staring. It sounds like the pups have dropped ie are preparing for birth and she is maybe hunching herself up a bit, either that or she is on the thin side to have her spine really prominent. If it were me, I would pop her down to the vet for a check up.
Wishing you and Roxy the best of luck
Hi,
I hope everything goes ok with the whelping. Basically, when the puppies drop the spine can look very prominent, but she could just be crammed with puppies. My friends staffy's spine look really scary when she was in whelp, and we were all concerned, but the pups arrived safely and there were 6 huge well feed puppies. When they were born she looked like a rag of bones, but the vet said to get her on a high protien diet and feed small but frequent feeds to build up her strength. All her goodness had been piled into the puppies and there was no runt. My bitch whelped 8 weeks ago now and she had a similiar problem.
The pups will come in good time. If she goes to over 63 days from her last mating I would pop her to the vets for a check up.
Thank you for your replies. When I say that her spine is really prominent its just more visible than ever before. She did have a check up 4 weeks into her pregnancy and the vet said that she is very muscular and that she would eat what she needed. But to make sure she eats well after the pregnancy. I will just have to wait and see what she is like after the pups. More waiting
