Does anyone know of any beaches in Weymouth that dogs can go on?

I am not sure if there is any beaches in Weymouth itself that allow dogs on, but if you leave Weymouth along the coast road and head towards Bridport, you will pass turnings along that road (on the left of you) that will take you down onto Chesil Beach. As far as I am aware you can take dogs onto the beach almost anywhere along there, because the beach is 26 miles long and fairly desserted even in the summer. I spend a lot of time in Bridport and West Bay area, and will be going there in the summer. You can take dogs onto West Bay beach, but only right at the far end during the summer months. This will be my first trip there with Lacey as she is only a puppy and we did not have her the last time we went, so I am looking forward to taking her onto Chesil Beach this year. I hope the weather stays good, and I hope I have been of help to you.

Hi Jane
My mum lives in Wales and so I shall ask her if she knows.
If not then get in touch with the local tourist information as I am sure they will have the information.
I bet Thistle will enjoy going in the sea ! There are not that many places around us where there is safe water for them to swim, unless do you know anywhere ???
Have a nice time next week !

Dear Lucy
I take Thistle down to the river near us nearly every day and it's great for 'water' dogs. It's only 5 minutes walk from my house. Do you fancy coming with me one day?

Hi Jane
Yes definately that would be good. In the evening during the week would be good or at the weekend. On a Sunday afternoon would be good as well. Wait until you get back off your break and mail me and we will let the two girls get together at last !
Speak to you soon

I visit Porthmadog quite often, which is near Harlech, the beach nearest to there, is Blach Rock Sands (signposted from the centre of Porthmadog). It is split into two halves, one for dogs. You can drive onto the beach and park the car anywhere, and the parking fee ticket is valid all day.....
It is worth a visit..

Dear Nicky
Thanks alot. I'm going to Wales tomorrow so I'll go to the beach you suggested on Tuesday. It's going to be really hot. I can't wait to see Thistle in the sea
Jane
Nope - but there's a couple stretches in Bournemouth that are still dog friendly in the summer - at Hengisbury (sp?) Head the beach to the left (if you're looking at the water) is dog compatible as it's stonier and people don't sunbathe on it so there's no restrictions, and there's a stretch about a mile or so near Branksome Chine.

Hello Jilly'
I live in Weymouth, and as we are now at the height of the holiday season dogs are banned from the main beach, except for a smallish stretch by the Pavillion. There is a nice beach where I live at Sandsfoot and Casle Cove where mostly locals go. Dogs can go there, but it's probably best to go early morning or late evening. Have you been to Weymouth before? The main beach and our local beach are all sand, and the tide goes out a really long way, so you can walk out quite a distance.
You can get on to Chesil Beach anywhere from Portland to Lyme Regis. It is all stones, large ones at Portland and getting smaller as you go towards Lyme. We love Chesil, but the sea can be quite rough and there is a very strong undertow.
I believe dogs can go on to any of the beaches on Portland which are also stony. There is a smallish beach with a stone prom and a very nice locals pub at Chiswell on Portland - recently we have had a Dolphin swimming there.
Phew! End of the tour !:D I hope you have a good time, we think Weymouth's great! :D

there are alot of beaches in weymouth dogs are allowed on there is overcombe near weymouth which is a pebbly beach the sea is alright for dogs to swim in my lab swims in it so it aint to strong there is also chesil beach near portland which is pebbles but the tides are to strong to swim in and there is a section of weymouth beach which dogs are allowed on which is sandy and the sea is safe i have found weymouth the best so far as my rotti hates pebbles and water but because the sea is clear and calm he has enjoyed it and has gone in up to his chest without worrying
