Dear Guest,
My heartfelt sympathy to you over the tragic loss of your much loved dog with stomach torsion/Bloat.
Years ago, one of my dogs developed the symptoms, but thankfully, the emergency Vet (early hours of the morning) was JUST able to save him. Very much touch and go, because even the operation is dangerous - Two Vets were actually called in to help him.
Since then, my own system has been no matter what time I feed my dogs, even if it is late, I always make sure I am still around for AT LEAST 30 minutes afterwards. That way I know if any discomfort shows, I can observe and check that it is no way connected with 'Bloat or Stomach Torsion'.
Thankfully, this condition is rather rare, which is probably why you did not know about it, but it can happen, so best to be prepared, and making sure my dogs have digested their food without any stomach aches, is my way of trying to ensure all is well.
Again, I am so sorry for your loss, you are obviously feeling dreadful. Please do not blame yourself either, you clearly did not know or understand the seriousness of the problem. Thankfully, you are now going to try and make sure you are prepared, and therefore will never happen again.
With kindest thoughts to you and your dog,
God Bless,
Denise.

So sorry to hear about your dog Guest, I had an encounter with this a couple of weeks ago with a friends Great Dane, luckily we were able to get her to the vet within 20 mins of the first signs and she is ok, I do wish this would be published more as it is surprising how many dog owners are not aware of it. So sorry to hear about your dog.Our lovely Weimaraner Jake died a couple of years back after the same illness. It was heartbreaking as he was only five and a half so I share your grief. Seems that big barrel-chested dogs like out two breeds are prone to this and in my case we feel we may have contributed to Jake's condition by feeding just before heavy exercising, but I'm not sure if that's the only cause.
Hope this helps.
