Topic Dog Boards / General / Pups born on Valentines Day - what to name them?
- By louisechris1 [gb] Date 20.02.06 10:43 UTC
Freya had her pups on Valentines Day (as many will know from my panicy posts!) and we are now trying to think of names relevant to that day.  Freya is actually a Scandanavian godess of love, so it was quite apt that she whelped on 14th Feb!  We currently have Aphrodite, Cupids Bow and Cassanova, but we are getting stuck now - we need names for 11 pups in all so any sugestions would be much appreciated!

HuskyGal are you Norwegian? I'm just curious, because it doesn't sound to me that "love" in THAT form should be elske in Norwegian. Elske/älska in Swedish and in Danish, which of course is very similar to Norwegian means the act TO love. But "love" as in eternal love would be "kärlek" in Swedish and a very similar word (although I can't remember the spelling) in Danish, which is why I am wondering if it shouldn't be similar in Norwegian as well  -2 different words depending on what it is used for. In Swedish "Evig Älska" would be incorerct and sound most odd, it should be Evig Kärlek.

 how verrrrrrry dare you! ;) lol.
My surname is Olstead, I was born in Trondheim but shipped over here at age 3 by parents, so a very non the less estranged Norwegian but visit grandparents every year. :(
I see your point though, but we have that inscription in our engagement rings that were made David Andersen in Oslo..I sure he's have put me straight. ;) (he has Efkva Attlings work in his shop,BTW,I was tempted. I wouldve had the inscription in swedish then!)
If I was saying to my OH that I loved him I'd use Kjeareste :)
Can I step down from the dock now? ;) ;)

I understad HuskyGal, and please forgive me if I seemed off as it was never the intention -I didn't mean any offence at all, I was genuinely curious as to if you were Norwegian. I have a friend who isn't Swedish but names her animals in Swedish and sometimes it ends up being wrong and sounds a bit silly and I just wanted to make sure it was correct -my fault, I only have basic understanding of Norwegian as I am Swedish. :)

Wow!  What a joy to name them all.
Maybe after romantic places that matter to you - mine would all be Italian cities.
Or films/songs/lines from love poems (Shakespeare's Sonnets - Summer's Day; More temparate; Powerful rhyme; Ever fixed mark; My mistress' eyes . . . I could go on) or some John Donne poetry (Songs and Sonets) is so evocative - Seven Sleeper's Den for example..
