I have a nine week old labrador/springer cross bitch who I'm looking for insurance for. I'm looking for lifelong insurance and have found that Marks and Spencers offer it at £91 which includes £7000 per year claims. Petplan's costs £121 and only have £4000 per year. I'm baffled by it all and would love advice. I'd like to go with M+S but thought I'd check here to see if anyone has an bad/good experiences with them? Please do post as I'm at a loss about what to do now, my vet wouldn't advise as they're not allowed to. :-(

A lot of members here are with M&S :) Both of my dogs are insured with them. I did a lot of research before I took out a policy and M&S offer the best value for money, IMO. I didn't find another policy which offered a 'no excess' option as cheaply as M&S either (only costs a few pence extra per month).
If you put 'insurance' into the search facility, you'll find previous threads where this has been discussed which might help you to come to a decision :)

Definitely M&S for me - and I have been through every bit of small print on every insurance policy I could find (sad I know!). They do a lifelong policy and you can have the no excess policy although this stops once the pet reaches 9 years old and you have to go on to this new percentage of the total bill nonsense, which has replaced the old "excess". I had only been with them a short while and then claimed. Paid up without even one question asked. VERY VERY impressed!

M&S are excellent and they also offer a No Excess option for a few quid more a month - definitely worth it!
Thank you all for your replies. I've decided to follow your advice and go with M+S and I've paidfor the no excess policy as well. It's really good to have people like you who have been kind enough to take a monent to help someone out you don't even know - I really appreciate it (and so does Poj.)
That was a good question and one i was about to post on the forum, you have saved me the trouble and the replies you got are very helpful,i am now going to look at m&s insurance.

Hi kevin. Have you found out if your pup will be eye tested? :)
HI VAL,i have not found out yet if the pup will be eye tested-we are going to see the pups in three weeks time so i will then ask the breeder-or do you think i should phone her before and ask her?

I would recommend that you should ask before you go and visit. You may decide that it's not the pup for you before going to look...............
Ive got mine with argos - I pay around £11.50 for my choc lab. Wish Id gone with M&S, my friend has and she pays around the same with no excess. Ive already had 2 trips to the vet, both £30 or so each. My excess is £50. Dont know what they are like when it comes to claiming though
I'm with M&S - and am a member of another dog forum - there were many recommendations for M&S there too. They're underwritten by someone fairly big.
