It is not judged as obedience at Crufts though.  The dogs are judged as a breed class

The good citizen awards are great.... they are domestioc/social/citizenship  training and a little  'lose' obediance.  So just think how much worse this GSD would be without having gained the Bronze award!

My pups now both have gained their Gold... this does not mean they are perfect... they are so young I would not actually want them to be robotic.... but shows they have mastered certain obediqance behaviours in a test situation where deliberate distractions are introduced, and tested for certain behaviours in normal everyday environments and a lot of temperment trsts and so on.  A dog who had passed any of the the awards ... even just the puppy class, should have a good level of behaviour and control for a decent amount of time... it should be obvious that the dog is trained more than the average mut... even though a young dog will firget that from time to time. But I find I like to keep a balance between these two worlds because whwre I live people are not that keen on training dogs.

The behaviours and levels they need to achiieve are not hugely hight really.... so things like loose heelwork is fine so the problem comes when the standard is lowered by those doing the testing. One dog in my club passed it's bronze and no way was it ready. It had no even slightest concept of the stay and worse still neither had it's owner. By passing that dog it undermined the hard work the rest of us put into training for these awards and totally belittles the award! I do think thay shold stick to a strict standard.

But except that one dog  I know at least mine and all ( err....most ) of the other dogs I've ever seen tested have all had honest passes and now for our pups I just wish the KC brought out a higher grade for us to work towards.

Soooo... can you explain this good citizen thing at Crufts... is this something different...?

It is a breed class.  The dog has to qualify in the normal way for breed, but if they have also passed a GC test bronze upwards, they can enter in the GC breed class at Crufts for their breed.

i no the dog will not be purfect but the dog has no recall at all he seems to call her then run away this only works sometimes. she has also followed me when i have left the park and it leads on a very busy road i just thought he would have a little control.
