Hi, my little darling shih tzu penny has been taken from us very suddenly with cancer, i also have a beardie our petra, how best can i help her to get over our loss as she has always lived with another dog in the house, i have never been in this situation before and would welcome your advice
Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. Just carry on your routine as normal. Dogs don't 'feel' the same way that we do. She will miss her pal for a little while, but will very quickly accept the new way of life. If you are thinking of getting another dog then make sure that you have mourned your loss first. I've lost several dogs over the years, but I've always had more than two dogs so have never only had one dog. I have found that they know when something is wrong and quickly recover once the ill dog has gone.
hello Petra I am sorry to hear of your loss, but I am sure your beardie will probably not mind too much, as when we had two dogs, Shandy the elder & solo , a beardie the younger, she didn't really seem to notice, although she was only 3 at the time, so matbe it depends how old they are. Unfortunately she died last year at the grand old age of 14, but we are only just deciding to have another dog. It is terrible to lose a pet. Take care 7 give yourself time to mourn Penny

So sorry to hear of your loss. But as others have said, don't worry too much about your beardie who will soon accept that life is different. Dogs don't feel things in the same way as humans and rather than worry about your other dog, give yourself a bit of time to come to terms with this sad event.

Thankyou all so much for your thoughtful comments over our loss, i'm still expecting to see her as i walk into another room, but as you say early days. My husband has a rock band so i'm sure penny will always be remembered as it is called Rainbow Bridge
Sorry to hear of your loss. You could try ignatia, this is homeopathic for pining.
