went out yesterday morning and was going out with a friend in their car at about 8am when a little black cat came running down the middle of the road crying at me. I stroked her and from the look of her bulging sides thought she was pregnant. She kept getting under the car and because I was worried she might get run over I picked her up and put her in the annexe with my daughter and asked her to let he go when we had driven off which she did.
Later on at about 3 was in the garden having a smoke when heard a cat really crying later outside the gate. Went out and it was the same little cat desperate to get back into the annexe. So let her in and gave her a plate of food that she ate as if she were starving. She has been there ever since and goes out for about an hour or less but comes running back. She is definately expecting and cant be more than 7 to 8 months old herself. She looks like she has been wearing a collar at one stage but it has been removed. I am wondering if she may be a stray but another part of me wonders if someone has thrown her out or dumped her when they realized she was pregnant. I will keep my eyes out for lost posters and will contact the local cat rescue to see if any body has reported her lost. 

Many years ago, when I was sharing a house, a stray cat 'adopted' us,  we nicknamed her Candy, and she used to pop in for cuddles, and yes we did feed her, it transpired she was pregnant, and gave birth to 4 lovely kittens under a bush in the garden, she then proceeded to bring them in the house 1 by 1 and deposit them under my flatmates bed Needless to say the RSPCA were totally uninterested,:rolleyes: so my flatmate adopted the cat, and we found homes for the kittens.

They arnt silly are they - know where to go to when they need warmth and food and can obviously spot a soft touch

I think the white cat that I have has been telling them where to come as I took him in about a year ago after he had been on the streets for several years. Had him castrated and now he lives in my bedroom in comfort and refuses to go out.
Its weird though how the little cat came running down the middle of the road straight up to me as if she knew heres a soft touch. She is bulging out both sides but cant see any movement, I wonder when she will be due. Are kittens easy to rehome as I dont really want that many cats I already have three and if the little black one stays that will be enough for me.

My friend is looking for a cat, as a house can so if you do have kittens feel free to send me a PM, i dont think she minds what colour she just wants a girl. Will be a house cat as her old one go ran over :(

My cat Lucy had two kittens.had no problem finding homes they went locally as well to good homes,she had a really easy birth just a couple of mee-owws,that was it,she did however give birth under the bed,so there they all stayed,no trouble at all,kittens went to new homes at eight weeks old,then i had Lucy spayed.Good luck,thank goodness the little cat found you to help her.

Just for future reference, not intended as anything else, kittens should be 12-13 weeks old when they go. 8 weeks is like selling a puppy aged 5 weeks....

I agree, I got my first two at 13 weeks and my kitten was 12 weeks, when I got my last one the lady had some others which were 8 weeks which I could of had but they were so tiny and still seemed so helpless :(

I had a stray cat give birth under my bed a few years ago :D

She was a lovely cat and had some super champagne coloured kittens (sort of a beigey colour)

We kept her, had her speyed and got homes for the kittens.

She was run over a few months later :(

All our moggie kittens have been 8 weeks old, even from CPL fosterers, when we have got them but pedigree kittens cannot leave until 13 weeks old and have to be fully vaccinated.

just to say little cat had 5 kittens last night. Sat with her till 4am so really tired today but she was so frightened she wanted someone to sit with her and give a bit of comfort. All went well after the first one was born. I think she thought it was a poo coming out and panicked jumped out of her bed and had it on the floor. Once that was over and the kitten was put back in the bed she had the other 4 in there no probs. They are all black, some with a little white on. Dont know the sexes yet as not very good when it comes to cats, puppies are so much easier.

I'm so glad she was right, the little one! You were the right person to turn to in her difficult position. Just imagine, young, pregnant and thrown out on the streets:rolleyes:

Just to help you with deciding sexes (easiest in the first couple of days ;) ) - little girls bottoms look like an upside down exclamation mark ! (in other words - dot to to the top) - little boys look more like a colon : .

all my cats are rescue ...the last one I noticed running up and down the road she looked as if she was trying all the doors to see which one was open I went outside to see what she was doing ...she ran right over  to me then past me and into the dining room where she stayed for 2 weeks (I tried to put her outside but she was petrified and just ran back inside) she looked as if she had just had a litter she was skin and bone but very friendly looked as if she had been a house cat that had just ..got lost .
We put posters up and asked around but no-one came forward so we kept her had her neutered ,vaccinated etc: she lived happily with us for over a year when......
my brother called around one day and caught a bloke trying to call the cat on my path he questioned him and it turned out she was his cat!!! she had had kittens and runout of the house presumably looking for them then got lost turned out she lived just a few roads away and he had seen her by chance taking a short cut up our road...I was a bit suspicious at first turned out they were  a lovely young couple he ran home to get his partner to come and see her they were delighted as they thought she had been run over .
I told them they could have her back if they wanted (you could tell she was thiers she knew them) I already had 4 cats at the time even though I loved her to bits by then ....luckily for me they declined as  they were going to New Zealand for a year and were so happy that she had found a happy home with us they asked if they could visit her until they left which they did it was quite sad to see they must have loved her a lot...as I write this she is curled up beside me ....loves my son to death and sleeps on his bed.

I think cats just know who will love them and be kind to them she definitely picked you out ...you have taken on a lot i applaud you for it she is a very lucky mummy cat indeed.
