Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / How long between pups urgent (locked)

Star gave birth to the 1st pup just over 2 hours ago. She started to push again about 30min ago but so far nothing. There ase pups still inside as you can see them moving around. Just debating weather to phone vets or wait a bit longer.
Any help please.

If you are worried, phone your vet. Better to be safe than sorry :)

phone vet and have them standing by, my bitch went 3 hours twice in her labour and had live pups each time, we went to vets at one point in the car and she promptly gave birth on the floor! ring the vet now, pushing with nothing happening could mean trouble

Phoned vet he said its normal and to give it another hour. He said he very rarely sees problems in her breed.

Hi Sharon, in my experience this is quite normal , i would normally feel to check if the puppy is coming feet first , as in this position the bitch seems to strain for longer. calm down  :) keep us informed

30 min after phoning vet she had another then a 3rd within 10min. 3rd was breech. The 1st is alot smaller than the other 2. All doing well.

Sharon

When there has been a delay with my bitches in delivering another puppy I have found that taking her into the garden for a little wander helps the process.  They seem to think they need a wee or a poo and a pup will then be born.  If you do this though please make sure you take a torch (if it's night) and some thing to wrap the pup up in.  The OH can also be very useful at this time, make sure you keep your girl on a lead so that you have complete control of where she is.  In my first litter of 10 - 4 were born outside including the first one.  We were about to leave for the vets as it had been over two hours of pushing without any puppies.  A quick walk round the garden got her going and she was off.  Everytime there was delay that I felt was a little too long I pooped her outside and a pup was delivered.  You must keep her warm and not spend too long outside.  They advise women in labour to keep active and not lie on their back - seems to work with my bitches!!

Hope everything goes well with the rest.

Yes she did walk about between pups. She as now got 7 pups. 6 bitches 1 dog. Dont know where she kept them all 2 weigh 1lb and the rest a couple of ounces under. Well over 6lb all in all. After the long wait 6 were born within 2 and half hours. Star is now sleeping and all pups feeding. Going to stay up with her all night.
