can anyone help, i bought a 4 yr bitch, when i got her home my boy was very interested in her, there were no signs of bleeding and the person i bought her from never mentioned that she was in season, after nearly a week of them being together they actually tied, she seemed happy with this, after this the dog didnt seem interested. once the tie was complete there was some bleeding and over the next few days she was standing for him but he wouldnt do it. in those days of her standing for him there was no bleeding, could anyone please help me with any info whether she could be pregnant

Sounds like you bought her to mate. You have obviously kept a close eye on them and have allowed them to be together and noticed her standing so I guess you are hoping for a pregnancy.
Get in touch with your vet and ask them to palpate for puppies, they will tell you when the best time is. Other than that you could scan or just wait and see.

after they tied i kept a very close eye on them as i didnt want them to get hurt but because there was no bleeding i didnt think she was in season and with me not knowing the girl i couldnt tell if she was swelled or it was normal, in hind sight yes she was swelled, the person she came from never mentioned her being in season, is iot possible to have a season with no bleeding

If they mated then yes she could be pregnant, if you get her to the vets asap he can give the morning after injection.

Oh, there was me jumping in feet first thinking the OP didnt want them to mate

i would like a litter of her and also off him im sorry im not sure how to use this, i will say that she was on the thin side but now she is pounding the weight on and looking good, even if i didnt like her i could never have left her where she was

If she and your dog have both got certificates showing they're clear of hereditary conditions, and their pedigrees are suitable (not too close, not too distant) and of course both are registered in your name, then you could allow nature to take its course and hope for the best. If not then it would be best to get the bitch injected to hopefully termintae any pregnancy and wait till the relevant tests have been successfully carried out.

I think that JG was referring to health test certificates??
A bitch stops bleeding, certainly loses colour, when she is ready to be mated. If she kept herself clean and you weren't checking, then you may just not have seen any bleeding.

yes the health test are fine.

Silent seasons aren't unknown - I've never heard of a bitch allowing herself to be mated when she
wasn't in season. Anyone?

i suppose if i had had her from a pup i would have noticed the changes in the swelling but i didnt, i would have liked her to settle in first and spoil her like she should have been but shes getting it now. thanks for the help

I've never heard of a bitch allowing herself to be mated when she wasn't in season. Anyone? Well if someone had told me this I'd have been sure they were mistaken but my Hamilton bitch allowed herself to be mated by and tied with my Border Collie dog - TWO YEARS after she'd been spayed

I had just come out of hospital and (with stitches in my stomach) had to sit outside in the garden in the freezing cold with them at 10pm while the 40 minute tie took place!!!
I've never heard of any others though....
Debs

Gosh, I've never heard of that Debs! Sounds like the OP's bitch was most likely having a silent season then. :-)

Yes I had a bitch definitely NOT in season being mated and tied -with a neutered dog!
