Hi

I have started my wee dog on Panacur and she is to get 5mls a day. I have tried putting it in her breakfast but she is not eating a full meal in one go. She is nibbling throughout the day. Will the Panacur have the same effect if it is eaten this way or am I better biting the bullet and syringing the amount into her in the morning? This does stress her out and she ends up spitting more out than she swollows. She is very preggy and I would prefer avoiding stressing her if poss but appreciate she needs to take the liquid.

Another thing, the amount given is for her weight, I am assuming she will gain more weight as the pups grow over the next two weeks, SO I will need to weigh her regulaly and adjust the amount accordingly. When she has had the pups she needs it for a certain amount of days after, Will I drop the amount again as she will be conciderably lighter?

Thanks in advance

Wendy

Edited to add I cant giver her a smaller portion because she then tastes the panacur and wont eat it

You really need to get it down her in one go.  Underdosing is pointless and some is bound to be left smeared on the bowl, giving more to compensate could be dangerous if she ends up taking it all.  With potentially dangerous chemicals it is always better to be precise so I would syringe to the side of the mouth, tip the muzzle up and gently massage the throat until she swollows she may not like it but she will forgive you :)

i would go with isabels suggestion., however i would ring the vet to confirm the dosage as this is a prescribed medication , just to make sure :)

The dosages, per weight, are clearly described on the bottle label :)

Hi

Yes I am going by the doseage on the bottle which as you say is very clear.

She wont take it so syringing it into her every morning.

Some thing else I thought about. You give the Panacur every day from day 40. Then two days post whelp. Her last litter she was a week early. Do you still only do 2 days post whelp even though she could be missing out on 7 doses? Really cant remember what I did last time:rolleyes:
