Hi Barnimac.
I have always found Laube varispeed electric clippers to be my favourite. I use them all the time in my salon and find them to be very good. a lot of people favour Oster clippers but I have never really got on with them. They seem slow compared to Laube. You will also need the appropriate blade to suit your breed as well, depending on the length you want to keep the coat. You would possibly need #5,4 or 3. If want it longer you would need to by the blade combs and a shorter cutting blade to go with the comb.

I have Oster A5 clippers for all of my OES.  Number 4 blade gives a cute teddy clip, number 3 leaves it a bit longer still.  You can use the comb attachments with a number 10 or 15 blade, in that case I have used a 1/2 comb.  Beware though, any matts in the dogs coat, and the comb won't go through, it will just jam or worst still, ping off into mid air!!  Good luck.

Thanks for your help, Barni came back from the groomer looking like a great dane, thats why I am going to attempt the job myself.  Put it this way he can't look any worse than last time.  Any tips for my first time?

A Universal Slicker Deluxe and a metal comb works well on OES!! :)

Dont mean to be ignorant val but what is a "universal slicker deluxe"  is it the same as a slicker brush?? Ive got that.  As you can see any help or advice will be very much appreciated before I attack poor Barni x

Yes, it's a really good and efficient slicker brush that goes through an OES coat easily so that he doesn't have to be clipped to look like a Great Dane.  I don't think that OES have the body to be clipped.....
I have scissored a geriatric OES 6" all over and he looked just like he did when he was a 6 month old puppy.

I'm not really looking forward to clipping him but it must be easier than scissoring him??  I wouldn't know where to start! Would I find it hard?  He is matt free, I go through him every day with the brush, i'm just going to find the slicker you mentioned on the net.  Thanks for the advice its all welcome,  janmac
