What paperwork do i have to take with me when my bitch is mated? Horse you have to take their passport, diesase certs and  swab certs. Anything similar for dogs needed??

any help ?
thanks

you need a litter registration application form from the kennel club, the stud owner signs it and then when pups are born you send it off with the names to register them. i would think a stud owner may want to see her pedigree and any disease certs.

If both bitch and stud are in the UK (which I'm assuming), take copies of her pedigree & health certs - the stud owner should be happy to show you same for the dog too.  I don't think anything else is needed apart from the KC green form (probably changed colour now  ) to verify date of mating etc which needs to be signed by the stud owner too.  If the stud owner has several males standing chances are s/he will have the form but you'd be as well taking one along in case.

In my breed pretty much everyone knows everyone else and the pedigrees and achievements of the dogs in the breeding pool and of course health tests are published so I can't think of anything else off the top of my head :)

HTH, Teri :)

teri, i would have thought thaT pedigree & all relevant health (BVA) certs had already been exchanged, simply so that the stud dog owner could decide whether to accept the bitch for their dog or not:confused: OP, I suggest you ring the stud owner & ask them & then there can be no mistake can there?

Why don't you ask the stud owner what they need you to take.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 13.02.06 20:41 UTC
Usually the stud owner supplies you with the registration form, I always have anyway and that's the way every stud dog owner has done it with me.

Hi,

Now you can register puppies on line with the KC...How does that work?.....How do you send proof online?

Sorry just being nosy, has anyone done it this way yet?

Thanks for all your help.
We have already e-mailed her pedigree to the stud dog owner but OH forgot to ask what else we needed!
He has to speak to the SD owner when she is in season and will ask then, but i am panicking already, it's only a month til she's due! I like to have these things organised and straight in my head way beforehand as OH is liable to spring things on me, like, ( in the car 100 miles from home taking the  bitch to be mated)

"oh by the way did you bring that form the man asked for?"

and i'm like, "what form"

"you know, the form he asked for, i told you" (knowing full well he hasn't but trying to cover up)

"I have no idea what you are going on about"

" but YOU are in charge of all the KC stuff...."

And so it goes on until we are having a massive row and he's threatening to leave me there beside the motorway!

You know what it's like the woman has to get EVERYTHING arranged.

Speaking from my own experiences, I usually ask to see pedigree a long while before hand, then a copy of the KC papers, and a copy of the Hip Scoring sheet.  Then if the pedigree is no good to put to my dog or I dont want him to mate I say so straight away.
When people come on the day I already know everything even the results from the smear test for bacterias, but I do ask to see veterinary proof of the results on the day.  I think thats about it really.
Except I have a contract for other things that people must agree to before using my stud dog, which is rehoming puppies, but I wont go into everything as you will think boy she is an over protective woman. ha ha.

Hi Rachael ive just been reading this post and your post has made me curious please could i see a copy of your contract if you dont mind that is my email is dawnoneill@btinternet.com i didnt realise people gave contracts with there stud dogs ,does anyone else give a contract i would love to see it regards Dawn
- By Fillis Date 19.04.06 22:07 UTC
I MUCH prefer to have a contract with any stud I use. I always ask for one and that way everyone knows where they stand and keeps everything on a much friendlier basis.
- By nuttyhousewife [gb] Date 19.04.06 22:24 UTC
hi fillis you dont happen to have a copy of one do you ? regards dawn
- By Fillis Date 20.04.06 09:32 UTC
Only ones I have are for stud dogs used on my bitch. As such, they are not really mine to make available, sorry.
- By nuttyhousewife [gb] Date 20.04.06 11:24 UTC

Absolutely, because you may wish to withold it for some reason, such as until a stud fee cheque has cleared or for some such reason. I always provide the green form myself, no need for bitch owners to bring one, however, that said, if its a novice stud dog owner, they might not think about having one, especially if they don't breed litters themselves, so might be best to get a couple in.

This is where the online registration is worrying me.

It has become common practice for stud fees in my breed to be paid at the tme the breede4 comes to register the litter.  they f8ll out the registraion form, send it with the stud fee to the stud dog owner, who signs it and forwards it on to the Kennel club.

The stud owner knows they will get paid as without their signature the litter won't be registered (not much call for unregistered stock in my breed).

Barbara,

Could you tell me more about online registration? (I hadn't heard - note to self: must read Dog World more than just upcoming shows, letters page and breed notes in future - grin).

So the KC are thinking of online registrations? Yes, how would this work with the stud dog owner parts of the form? Have the KC revealed this yet?

I would LOATHE puppies to be able to be registered from my stud dogs on a tick box that i'd signed a form or something.... shudder....

I suppose they must have some kind of system in mind for keeping the sud dog owner involved nd able to with hold until they are happy to decalre their dog is the sire etc etc?

They are initially lettign affix holders test it, but will require that bitch owners keep something signed in case a stud owner objects.

Trouble is the average person doesn't scan every BRS to check that soemone hasn't used their stud dog for a litter without it actually happening?

Our breed club prints al the BRS registration details each year in our club journal, but that info could be nearly two years odl by then as it usually comes out in August for the year before, so january litters woudl be over 20 months earlier.
- By wylanbriar [gb] Date 22.04.06 08:57 UTC
Blimey thats dreadful, I had no idea! It might be worth using for this upcoming litterI have due to owning Sire and Dam though (fickle eh? Aren't I fickle?...grin!)

I certainly don't take the BRS for one, and with our breed it would be impossible to print it all in anything..... well I never! Did they sneek this in the back door or was it highly publicised and I was dozing?

Time to invest in the BRS again, I'm thinking....I gave up on it as it got later and later before and Spring would come out in June, Summer in Ocober and Winter sometimearound the following March ! ;-)

The stud dog owner will be sent a letter everytime a litter has been registered with that stud.

The registration online will have a disclaimer that will cover the KC if there are any errors or naughtiness going on. :-)
