Hi , we were planning to go on holiday to Norfolk in June ( found a lovely little cottage where we can take Rosie too:cool: ) It is in a village called Yaxham , west of Norwich. The only thing is we don't know what there is to do there - other than walking - and was wondering if anyone has been there or knows the place who can suggest a few ideas. ....Oh , and thay have to be dog friendly as we're not allowed to leave pets unnattended in the cottage!!

Any ideas would be very appreciated ,

Thanks ,Kate and Sean

How about hiring a day boat and touring the Broads?

We took our dogs on the broads,we went to Wroxam which is one of the main ones to get a boat and it was Lovely, first time we hired a small boat for 3 hours which really wasnt long enough,so last year we hired for the day,had a great day, stopping for coffe ect in lovely little places, think it cost about £90.We will be going again in August,we stay at Blakeny, lovely place and lovely walks.went for a walk one day and there were fields full of pigs,I was in my element as I love pigs.

Hi, i live in Norfolk and there are some lovely walks, the beaches or most of them are closed off to dogs from April to September but there are some that are open, i will try and dig out a list for you, the broads is excellent as already said, you can hire boats there, and take Rosie along.. also if you do a search on this web site : www.walkingbritain.co.uk you should find some walks you can do on here...

I used to live in Cambridgeshire and would head up to the North Norfolk coast for days out.  Lovely, lovely little towns with good foodie pubs are: Burnham Market; Holt next the sea; Blakeney; Burnham Overy Staithe (also coastal) but the Broads can be a little too small without the slow pace of the boat.  I have done boating hols there b4, but found the towns on the broads interesting only because they're where you moor for the night and you change them every day; couldn't imagine staying in one of those villages for more than a night personally, but you may like things sleepier than I do!  Norwich is a lovely vibrant city, btw . . .

Thetford Forest, Mildenhall Air base if you are interested in the planes, ring the local tourist information for a brouchure,Hunstanton a lovely seaside town, Sandringham and the grounds have beautifull walks Dogs allowed, The Lavender farm and the stills, Wells is a great place for crabbing and there is a wooded walkway for dogs you can walk from the town down to the woods over the track. Just a few idea's in the area.

We stayed in Brancaster last year - very quiet, exceedingly boring - we had a bungalow for a week and by Wednesday I was desperate to go home...:-( Our best outings were to Sandringham, lovely for dogs. I then recollected that when we used to camp we stayed at Sandringham, instead of having a 40 minute journey to get there....I think we're in the market for a new tent....

We have holidays in Norfolk most years with Spice now. We stay in Winterton, the beach there is dog friendly all year round and the sand dunes are great for walks,(watch for Adders though in June time) lovely cafe at the top of the hill .
Last year we visited Castle Rising, lovely old castle and they allow dogs on leads throughout. Also went to Sandringham and walked through the woodland and took a picnic although the cafe is good and they allow dogs if you sit outside.
Felbridge hall is great too, lots of walks to enjoy and also another good cafe!
The Norfolk people are very friendly and love dogs in most places we have even taken Spice into a few shops there when visiting the towns!
There are a few candle works and potteries to visit and the lavender farm is worth a visit.
We went to the Shire Horse place along the coastline, they permit dogs on leads. Also we found a museum, sorry can't remember the name, but it may be worth a websearch, where they had tonnes of memorabilia?sp which took us hours to browse, but was very interesting ,they allow dogs.
Thrigby Hall/Zoo park is good especially if you love tigers! but sorry they don't let dogs beyond the car park, we visited there the year before we got Spice just after losing our first dog as we had already booked our holiday sadly before our dog had to be pts unfortunately.
There are seals sometimes to see on Winterton beach too, they are fascinated by dogs and come quite close inshore if you have a dog with you on the beach! Thetford is good for walks and June is the Royal Norfolk Show! well worth the money, we met (well photographed) Prince Charles when we went and had a great day there.
If I think of anymore places I'll add them, enjoy your holiday, we are going again end of March.
Jacqueline :)

Thank you everyone for all your ideas and names of places to go.Glad to know of a dog friendly beach there cause we were hoping to take Rosie to one as she has never been to the sea before. Sandringham also looks a definate because it seems to be a popular choice of you all so must be good. We have booked a lovely little cottage (with a big enclosed garden!) in a village called Yaxham which looks kinda central to most places.
Can't wait - although bit worried about the adders mentioned

Thanks , Kate
