My friend has three ******. One is 9, one 18 months and the other is 6 and expecting a litter and about on day 25 after mating. The problem is that when she got up this morning, there was a patch of light fresh blood on the quilt that the three dogs sleep on. This was'nt heavy blood and not at all clotty and when she wiped all of the three bitches nether regions, all were clear of blood. The older 9 year old dog has recently had a phantom pregnancy and now has mastitus and is on antibiotics and the tablets that stop the phantom pregnancy (sorry can't remember what tablet are called). All dogs are happy, eating well and all seem very happy. The problem is she is worried sick it could be the 6 year old bitch aborting her puppies or could this be something to do with the mastitus in the 9 year old bitch. She has called the vet this morning who was'nt much help and told her to keep an eye on them and bring the 9 year old in to the clinic in the morning if still worried. Has anybody any ideas as to what this blood may have been from? Many thanks. Christine.

She really needs to know which dog it is would the 18 month old be coming into heat maybe.
The pregnant girl should be having her check up soon so maybe she should take her to the vets a little early some people say a light spotting is ok but i dont like anything but clear mucus and always have a girl check if there is anything but clear.
It is very possible it came from the year old because there can be a small amount of blood when they have mastitis how long has she been on the tablets ? do they seem to be working ? maybe a checkup for her wouldnt be a bad idea either
The bitch with mastitis is now on her second course of antibiotics and has another four days to go on these tablets. She is still very swollen and sore. The vet mentioned that she thought it could be a possiblle womb infection because of the swelling of one teat but there has been no discharge or anything. The vet mentioned a poss historectomy if nothing improves with her on Monday but my friend (also Christine) is not so keen on the idea of a historectomy as this bitch is already 9 and not in the best of health anyway. She is worried she may not make it through such a major op. Can a bitch who is having her first season have such a small bloody discharge and then seem to be clear again straight away? I just wonder if it is the young bitch having her first season.
Hi Christine, Sorry can't help with you friends problem, But just wanted to say welcome back, if you've been on lately and i've missed you sorry, But last time we spoke was when pepsi was having her pups and I was getting all excited with you and all the heartache you were going through when they were poorly.
I often wonder how they are doing now.
Lynn
Hi Lyne. Pepsi is fine and puppies all doing well. I kept one bitch, Fizz who is a complete nut case outside and when she comes in the house is completely chilled out. It's amazing how time flies. Fizz will be nearly nine months old soon. Pepsi is doing great although Fizz is constantly bothering her. I've just been back on Champdogs recently as I've just been so busey with everything (mainly dogs and ponies) but its nice to be back. Hope every else has been okay. I still tell all my friends how wonderful people were with me on Champdogs (especially KayC) when Pepsi had puppies and its something I will never forget.

Just so you know there is never a guarantee with any form of surgery but at her age in australia they would do a liver and kidney functioning test to make sure she could flush an aneasetic out of her body. The thing is if it is an infection if she doesnt have the spaying she could die because antibiotics havent really been all that successful and a vet prefers to remove the uterus because the infection can spread to the blood system quickly and also if he said he wasnt sure because there had been no discharge the bleeding could have been the first signs of discharge so i would take her to the vets
Thanks for that slee. I'm sure Christine will take both of them to be checked out tomorrow just in case. I suppose it is just very worrying when they get to that age. Many thanks.
Can a bitch who is having her first season have such a small bloody discharge and then seem to be clear again straight away? My brood bitch is currently in season, and usual for her is that for the first 5-6 days or so there is just a slight discharge with a red tinge to it, and most of the time you don't see it as she licks herself clean. THEN she starts bleeding properly. So yes, it could well be the start of a season.
