Can anyone suggest a way to stop our 13 week old puppy (who we have had for 2 weeks) peeing on the bed of our older dog? We are using a crate to train the puppy - she sleeps in it overnight and we put her in it during the day from time to time and she has never soiled it. However, our other dog (who was older when we got her) has never been crated and has a bed near the crate. When the puppy is out of her crate she often goes and lies on the older dog's bed (the older dog just goes and lies somewhere else). This is annoying enough in itself but over the last few days she has started peeing on the bed - apparently deliberately. She isn't properly housetrained yet but most of the time gives some kind of signal she needs to go out. But when she wets the bed there is no signal at all - she just suddenly crouches down and there's nothing we can do to stop her. Why is she doing this? What can we do to stop her? I can't wash and dry the bed twice a day! And I feel so bad for our older dog who has lost her bed!

We just covered the bed with a waterproof backed blanket and she just did it again! Help! Is she scent marking? if so, what do we do?

I think I'd be asking myself what is different about the older dogs bed which makes it so attractive to the puppy. Is it the position it has in the house, is it more secure, is it warmer or more comfortable?
It would also be worth getting the pup checked by the vet to make sure there's no urinary infection.

It's probably more comfortable than what is in her crate....and it's outside the crate which is a big plus for her as she doesn't like being shut in the crate much. We have two beds the same and could probably squeeze one in the crate....do you think we should?

Think like your puppy - which would YOU prefer? If the crate is the undesirable option, I'd be using some way of making it MORE desirable......

My one dog Dozer use to do that, I just picked up the bedding (was a big blanket) when he had free time. Rather then that I house trained mine on a leash where ever I went so did they, and when I went near the bed I would sit on it with him, play with him there and gave treats and stuff.... He soon got out of it, but I have to watch when I have newspaper down even at 4yrs he will still go and pee on it the lil bratt... My dogs are also kept in kennels except one gets free roam of the house.
