I have managed to find Moll a lovely new pony :D After we lost Grace and Lucy turned out to be unsuitable to ride (she's now out on loan as a broodmare - nutter under saddle  :D ) I have seen several unsuitable ones just recently. But today, in Sleaford (waves at Mel) we went to see, and brought home, the fabulous Marley (insert loveheart smilie here).

He is 19 (I really wanted an older horse too :D ), 14.3hh, 110% the total gent and best of all, he is appaloosa spotted :D

He came from a lovely family who cried their eyes out when we left with him and he travelled like a star. He's eaten his dinner and he's in with Josh and he has settled like a pro.

Mollie is completely besotted. Bless.

Its lovely to hear that other people appreciate an older horse/pony.  My daughters horse, Frankie, a 15.2 chesnut is well into his twenties but is the most wonderful horse we could have.  Lovely to work with in every aspect and with such heart it is unbelieveable.  We have taken him to the odd local show and entered him in jumping and working hunter classes, and although attractive he looks his age and has been disregarded by folk when he enters the ring but as soon as they see him jump they soon change their mind.  He has never refused anything she has put him at and he throroughly enjoys it and impresses many people as he just looks like he loves every minute of the shows.  I dread to think about when anything happens to him as he is irreplaceable.

Lucky you, had to sell my lovely Arabian mare two years ago and still not over it properly.:-(

just one comment though (and it is only a comment) You mention a horse you had that was a 'nutter' under saddle and that she has gone to be a brood mare. Do you think that is wise?? If you had a bitch that was a nutter you wouldn't consider breeding from her surely  so where is the difference. I can imagine the replies on here if somebody posted that they were looking for a stud dog for their nutter bitch

I'm not getting at you, just highlighting the difference between the horsy and doggy worlds! ;-)

Lucy is a registered welsh sec D mare with excellent breeding. I was given her and she proved to be a nutter under my saddle for my daughter - aged 12 - despite what I was told. She was fine for a competant adult - which my daughter is not!

There are horses being born out of mares all over the place from unregistered stock. My mare is at a welsh stud being put to a registered, winning welsh stallion by folk who know what they are doing. Thanks for your concern, but I am not in the habit of not practising what I preach :)

And, finally, providing there is no physical problem causing the problem - I don't see why you wouldn't breed from a mare who is not a 100% under saddle - it could be down to bad backing, training, whatever. There are mares bred from who are unbacked - so I don't really see a problem?
