My pups are due in about 4 days time. What are the 1st signs to watch for. My last litter was over 3 years ago and were born about 3 days before expected so I wasnt aware of anything untill it was clear my dog was in labour wouldnt leave mt side and was restless. Are there anything that I could look out for before the actuall onset of birth.
It will be my dogs 1st litter and I want to make sure Im on hand. Although I dont have a lot of time away from home it will be my luck not to be there at the time.
Thank you
Sharon

Hi as you said she may become restless, she mite look for a place to have her puppys she may start to dig up in your house or garden . if you start takeing  her temp you you may notice a sudden drop to around 37.3 if this happen she should go into labour with in 24 hours, but remember as its her first litter it can take 2-3 day before she whelps , keep a cool head on you shoulders and just be there for her warm regards debbie.

Hi Sharon, my girls usually become more restless. going in & out of the whelping box doing a bit of digging & tearing the newspapers , in & out to the garden as if their busting for a wee, but only doing a dribble !! this can go on for up to 24hrs before they take to the whelp box and the ripping the paper with their teeth starts , with resting in between ,  then they usually start pushing within a few hours .  ooh i bet your so excited !!! good luck to your girl & you , let us know how she goes on :):)
