tried a few times. at the second attempt i thought he got it wrong but when I checked it was me who didn't take away properly, so he was right!!!

every single transposed figure, is divisible by 9 ie:  97-79 = 18 divisibl by 9.....37-73 = 36  etc...try it :D (however, the only answers you will ever get are 18,36 and 72  all three of these number add up to 9

eg... 8462-2648=5814 (divisible by 9)   if I take the numbers 581 you have 2 options   8+1=9-5=4  or
8+5+1=14...you know it cannot be double figures so remove the 10 leaving you with 4..... if I use the numbers 814 the same applies eg 4+1 = 5 or  8-4+1=5.....or :D  using 584 eg 5+4-8=1 or 5-4=1

lol, been there done that lol....I could never teach, neither the patience nor the ability....My daughter on the other hand teaches A level physics at one of the most prestigous boys schools in England.....she didn't get that from me....or her father for that matter    But I love number crunching :D
