In an attempt to feed my cats a more natural diet and also help with their teeth problems, I've changed their food over to Burns dry food and Nature's Menu for Cats - however, I thought I'd experiment and try them on chicken wings - they had a cursory nibble and promptly dragged them onto the floor for the dogs to finish off. Has anyone got any other suggestions of alternatives I can try them on? Feeding bones has definitely improved the dogs' teeth and I'm eager to accomplish the same for the cats and avoid the dental treatments that have so far become routine!
Thanks :)

Mice? :)
I did suggest that to them, but unfortunately they don't appear to have a very great success rate.. :D

In America you can buy frozen mice as cat food. Think the company was called Mice on Ice. Honest!

People that feed cats raw tend to feed them raw minced meat, AMP and similar.

I'm sure you can buy them here, although they are intended for reptiles I believe, not something I fancy lurking in my freezer though :)

Yes, I've seen frozen chicks, rats and mice (all stages from 'pinkies' to adults) in the freezers at pet shops, for feeding to reptiles and some birds. I never thought to feed them to cats - what a good idea!

Oooooooh! I know it shouldn't but frozen gerbil, guinea pig and hamster make we want to go ahhhhhhhhh! :( Wish I hadn't started this idea now! :)

when i looked at it it made me cringe a bit aswell but i think that is because i see them more as pets than anything else.

When I discovered the website Mice on Ice I mentioned it on my cat list, and several people told me they'd tried giving dead mice etc to their cats. It doesn't work! The cats apparently only touch mice if they are alive, and so this is why people feeding cats raw use minced meat.

I have a snake so I always have ickle cutesie mice lurking in my freezer - it is my pet freezer though so all the gorey stuff is kept together. I never thought to feed them to my cats but they do a good enough job of catching their own (and crunching them up on the nice cream wool rug in the living room, usually when I have visitors) from the amount of kidneys I find lying around I would say mine have a couple of mice or other rodent per day, often they will have a rabbit too. As kittens I fed mine on raw chicken drumsticks which they loved (bone as well) my new kitten if he gets the chance will steal the dogs chicken wings from their bowls and have a good crunch, which is quite amusing because they are fed on stands so he has to reach up on his hind legs to get them :D :D
Hiya my cats eat raw whole quails & fresh sardines, always eat the quail bones but not always the bones of the sardines  :D
I'd feel a bit guilty for their lack of hunting prowess if I gave them frozen mice I think- a bit like rubbing their noses in it!

Think I'll try them on the chicken drumstick & fish suggestions - although I have visions of the dogs getting a few extra treats... :)
The thought of feeding cats frozen mice is a good one but i dont think i could cope with the crunching noises. They have fur and noses and eyes. Not like carcasses that i feed to the dogs. Chicken wings seems like a good idea for a cat though.

My friends cats have wings and necks (chicken) I ordertheir food when I get for my dogs!
Ours do the same, wont touch them. Funny enough the one with no teeth insists on eating dry food and wont touch tinned. Anyway they all get at least one meal of cooked meat which goes down very well as the one without teeth is not supposed to eat dried food due to a problem with oxilates.
