After enjoying 6 illness free winters I've just had flu for the second time in 2 months.  I'm feeling really listless and washed out and feel I need something to get my energy levels back up.

Just wondered if anyone could recommend a tonic I could buy over the counter ?

The only thing i use when i'm feeling like you are now, is hot lemonade with 2 dissolvable paracetamol :-)

Hope your feeling better soon :-)

I've only had flu twice in my lifetime, first when I was 12 and the 2nd 5 years ago and I was very ill, then I got chest infection, then got Laryngitis (sp?).  It knocks you for 6 doesn't it? It does make you feel very tired and lethargic and I think best you can do is to listen to your body and take things easy and not push yourself.  Pharmacist might be able to recommend a tonic but probably best to eat lots of fresh fruit and veg, rest and gradually build your strength with short walks.

Hope you're feeling better soon

best vitamins I've ever used is berocca which you can get as a tablet or as a dissolvable drink.  it's very concentrated vit C and a mixture of B vitamins and is great for hangovers and as a general tonic.  i swear by it.  You can buy it from most chemists and supermarkets.

Hi tyby,
There is a lot of vitamins you can take, and people will say "have a well balanced diet"
But! we all don't. The one vitamin tab. that I would recommend. and I've tried many over the year.
As I get bad chest infections with viruses, and can't have antibiotic's.
Is "Wellwoman" it is a all-round supplement for women, [they do a "Wellman" as well!!!]
and plenty of sleep. Lots to drink [not alcohol] Boot's some times do a two for one.
Other wise Asda, as you do not pay v.a.t. on your medicines.
You will start to feel better after approx. one week.
hope it helps.
Regards
Denese

Very unauthodox I know, but a nice slimfast (after breakfast) always bucks me up and throws all the vitamins and minerals back into your body to help fight off the nasties. :-)

Thanks for all your suggestions, really helpful.  I have had this latest bug for almost 2 weeks now and it's really getting me down. I am normally so healthy so didn't expect to succumb to 2 similar illnesses in such a short space of time.
It's funny how, when you're ill, you can't imagine ever being able to do all the things you normally do without thinking - just getting out of bed is an effort ! :)
