I'd dearly love to get my dogs onto Laughing Dog kibble, as although I feed Burns' kibble I'm really not keen on the whole seriously processed food thing, as well as the additives and whatnot.  Plus, the whole extrusion thing seems pointless to me - practically incinerate the food, thereby removing vitamins and other good things and flavour, so you have to replace all those things later.  Bit silly really!

I could get them on it now, but sometime this year I'm moving to Yorkshire (don't know when right now, our buyers just backed out :( )- and there aren't any stockists of LD nearby; they quoted me £20 to ship to the town I'm moving to, regardless of how much I order.

So, I'm looking into making my own kibble.  I like the idea home cooked food for dogs, but chances are I won't have the time to prepare each meal separately - so, I thought if I could make kibble myself in small-scale LD style, then I'd know exactly what my dogs were getting, I could prepare a batch each weekend, and making kibble would also mean I could continue to use it as treats for training, as I do with my dogs' current food.

Any thoughts?  Ingredients, preparation method and so on?  Thanks!

i would say it would probably take more time making kibble than preparing BARF, i make my dogs treats and even that takes me ages and that is a very small amount.

What do you mean by kibble? Do you mean a complete or just a mixer and give the meat seperately? It would seem counterproductive to do a complete from scratch - you may as well just cook grains, veggies and meat in batches and give that to the dogs than mixing flour, veggies, meat etc... to a paste then baking it into biscuits. and I'm sure the dogs would enjoy the 'stew' more anyway. You could do a big pan and freeze it in portions. There are several good books out there about home cooking balanced dog diets.

How about Anglian who do Natures Menu and Prize Choice. They do complete kibble, mixer, complete frozen, pouches, treats and frozen meat. They also deliver and the biscuits look very comparable to Laughing Dog ingredients wise. Plus they deliver for about £3 - the only thing is you have to order £50 worth of stuff at a time. I've used their stuff in the past and it's really good - the only reason I don't use any more it is I have no freezer big enough.
