Spotted a full page article in the Daily Mail yesterday about hybrid dogs - and finally, it was most definitely NOT in favour of them.  It had quotes from vets and the like saying how these hybrids could inherit problems from either parent, and how a small gene pool could easily result in them actually having worse problems in the near future.  Plus, a good part of the article was about the cost of the pups - how rediculous the prices are now compared to just 5 years ago, and how most people are in it for the money; and the fashion aspect, of course.

Very refreshing, now we just need to see more of these - I'd particularly like to see pictures of whole litters, as there was a pic of a cockerpoo - it looked completely and utterly different to another cockerpoo I know at the kennels.  Different fur, structure, everything.

Thank God for that and it's about time too, but there needs to be more than just one article out there!

pass the dog time on Richard and Judy. What a surprise another article on cross breeds "oh aren't they gorgeous". Lets face it, all puppies are adorable, when are people going to see the commercial expoitation going on. Now let me just go and find out when I can climb on the bandwagon with my 12 week old min poodle puppy........

Judy summed it up, reaching for one of the puppies saying "let me have a go"

oh, I don't know... the puggle in the DM is in no way cute IMO!  Horrible!

I saw the Richard & Judy show as well.  I can now see lots of people rushing off to buy one of these puppies, Judy's "let me have a go" and also "they have a powdery smell just like babies" will have no doubt up the fee for one of these pups and no doubt made them even more in demand.

just so you know there is also an article in 'dogs today' magazine about many different new crosses such as cocapoos, labradoodles and many more!

There was an article the other day in the Times I think about the new Beagle crosses (can't recall the name) but apparently the paper was saying much of the market from these dog is purely fashion because of celebrities (naming James Garndolfini as one 'celebrity' owner as well as a number of other celebs. It is a shame that they have so much money which could help good causes, and yet animal welfare seems to go out of the window in place of what 'loos good' and best compliments their image.

Sadly, the Sunday Times had a very pro-article - particular emphasis on Puggles.  :-(

After reading this thread, I went to have a mooch around the internet to see what these pups looked like as adults. Sadly, a lot of them are not exactly pretty!! I wonder if the buyers realise what their beloved pooch could end up like? My Tansy is a Jack Russell crossed with goodness knows what, but I wanted a mongrel and that's what I got. I wonder if Uma Thurman knows she just bought a mongrel?? LOL :-)

Can you PM me some adult references, showuing adult versions.
- By TansysMum [gb] Date 08.02.06 12:11 UTC
Will do if I can find out how to do it LOL. All the pics were in different places, and there were not adult pics of all.....so I will have to copy and paste the urls onto a word doc first. All I did was to type into the search engine the crossbreed I wanted to look at.
