Hi all labrador exhibitors!
I've been informed that the bitch judge for this show has been changed to Mrs Eileen Jackson (Emsal) - due to Mr Boothroyd being unwell.
Please put this right, if i've got it wrong!
Cheers
Di (:))

Hi,
Slightly different question.
If as we are lead to believe ( I have no reason to believe otherwise in my experience) and hope that all jusging is fair, equal and to the breed standard why is it that when there is a change of judge people are sometimes unhappy, or why do some people only enter under csrtain judges.
I just can understand this. Surely it should not matter at all in fact there is no real reason for a judges name to be present on entry form surely if the jugge is qualified the same as another judge.
Thsi is nothing to do with the answer to above but triggered the question in my head..

I have a friend in Field Spaniels and she won't enter her puppies under certain judges because they're not as gentle as others with inexperienced puppies.
I've got another friend with Danes and she won't enter under a particular judge because the judge doesn't like the build of her dogs. There's nothing wrong with her dogs according to the breed standard but they're not what the judge prefers.
I've been advised not to show under one judge because they don't tend to place black cockers and prefer the parti-colours. The only problem is I can't remember which judge that is :(
It's all very complicated!!!

All judges judge, or should judge, to their interpretation of the breed standard, so if you know the judges interpretation does not fit your dogs you think twice about showing under that judge. Ja:)kie

Hi Jackie I hear this often and 100% understand it but that does not help the breed because if for example:
MR A liked type A dogs but not B Dogs
MR B like type B and not type A dogs
we will and continue to have different types of dogs.
I don't know the answer to this as humans are humans but we as humans need to stop being tunnel visioned. I have often thought although I know it unrealistic that 2 judges would be good.
Who knows..

Pam, if both A & B type dogs are good examples of the breed according to the standard the slight difference is a good thing for the breed. They should only differ in small detail, in my breed some dogs have a heavier head than others, some like the heavier head, some dont, and should you as a breeder, decide that although you like a heavy head your stock is in danger of becoming overdone in head, you will use a stud with a lighter head in order to try and correct or improve the tendency. This is very simplistic but I hope you see what I mean. I onced showed a bitch that was 1/2" under breed standard, an acceptable amount, but I knew some judges would dismiss her as too small, so I would not show under them, where as others would not mind her size and even prefer her to an 1/2" over tall dog. Hi Glenys
I may be better off under the new judge anyway - only entered the girl as I was bringing Storm up anyway to put under Carole, and thought I may as well bring 2 as 1!!
I believe MB's got something wrong with his foot or leg or something. An email was forwarded on to me last night, so I thought I ought to put it on the board. I'm assuming that it's correct as it came from a very reliable source.
Am I to see you there? Part of my reason for entering was so that I could come up and photograph Jane R's black boy (that you bred) - so if you are there, get Jane to point me out and we can meet.
bye for now, Di

I hope that Paddy's not too bad, he's gone through enough in his life and he's such a lovely man. If you know him or his wife send my regards.
