Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Am I wrong???

I have a 6 month old JRX, and I don't know if I am reading too much about diet, or just not getting the point!! Tansy is mostly fed on raw lamb or beef mince with Pedigree Chum small bite mixer. She has this with finely grated carrot, or tiny pieces of tomato, and sometimes gravy  She also has lightly scrambled egg made with just a drop of milk, and cooked rice. If I do not have time (rarely), she has a bit of Butchers tinned dog food with some mixer. She will not entertain chicken wings or bones. She is a bit fussy about the size of her food!! If I have sardines on toast, then she gets sardine. She enjoys mashed up cooked veg with her food too, but I am careful not to overdo it...we made THAT mistake at Xmas !! Oddly enough, she is not a big lover of treats...mainly because of the size maybe? She will chew on the occasional pigs ear, and the odd biscuit, but she is not at all keen on biscuits of any size.
She appears healthy, and enjoys her food....bright eyes, clean teeth, mostly  calm.
Is the diet that I am giving her OK, or is there something she is missing in her diet? I have looked at some of the 'doggy diet' sites, and I don't really want to start adding different supplements, as they suggest, unless I need to.
Thank you all :-)

Dogs are designed to make the best of whatever food is available so if she healthy, full of energy etc etc it must be right for her! :)

Hi - I don't feed raw, but it sounds like a Gordon Ramsay restaurant for dogs!

I just wanted to say - the reason why she isn't keen on treats is probably because she is getting the most fantastically tasty food, for free, for every meal.

One of the reasons I don't feed wet food is because when I train with mine, using hotdog sausages etc, I want that treat to seem like the most tasty thing the dog can remember eating for a LONG time.  I'm sure, if I was putting down a bowl of deliciously tasty things like you describe, soon the dog would not be particularly interested in the treats.  Because the "normal food" would be tastier than what I was offering as a treat, and moreover the normal food would be "free" in a bowl, and the treat would need to be worked for.  I have, at times, fed wet food and this is what I've found.  However, you may not really be into training and this may not worry you.

Lol onetwothree.......as long as she walks good, sits and waits when told and doesnt behave inappropriately with other dogs and/or people I am not too worried about her. She will do anything for a doggy choccy drop though :-) :-), and I forgot hot dog sausages..she adores them in little bits as a treat. By the way, after just two weeks at Meadowdogs she is walking to heel, coming when called, and becoming focused on her ball when we are out. Thanks for suggesting a new training class!!

Fortunately for many of us this is not necessarily so with chowhounds! :D
