How often do you check your details on any car documents? I only asked because I'm having a nightmare just now. I was very lucky to have been given (free ;) ) a car last year from an elderly relative who decided she was getting to old to drive. The car was 15 years old and had only done 15,000 miles  :D So of course I said thank you and took it :) I went to the Post Office to get Road Tax. Sorry, can't do that. The MOT certificate has the wrong registration number on it  Oh, and so does the insurance document. :( I managed to get the MOT certificate the same day (thankfully it was only a few miles away to go back to the testing station) but the insurance document? They said they would post it first class on Thursday night. It still hasn't arrived. So no road tax, no car. No car, no shopping, no work, no nothing....NO BUSES either at a decent time. Thank heavens for my boss. She is very nice and will make a 30 mile round trip just to get me to work....and then bring me home again. Hope the documents arrive tomorrow, I need shopping!!!!

i've had a smiliar experience with my insurance docs. In the end, i rang and said that i needed a covernote so i could get my car taxed, and it was with me in 3 days. I'd get back on the phone to the insurance company, although with it being business posting, you probably won't get it til the middle / back end of this week anyway. You could at least confirm with them if its been sent or not?

I experienced this with an insurance company when I bought my new car, I had to tax it before I could collect it from the garage, the insurance company took too long to send it through so I cancelled with that insurance company and went with a broker in town and collected my certificate the same day :)

I had to tax my car last week, I spent two hours looking for my MOT certificate, couldnt find it so called up my mechanic for a copy, he called the MOT centre and realised that I didnt actually have an MOT - I must have dreamt it !!!

Most of the newish MOT's are suitable for the online tax registration. Very simple to do.
