Molly my 4 tear old Tibetan Terrier, has no time for young boisterous dogs or dogs that take too much interest in her backside! She is not aggresive but turns on them and lets out this high pitched bark, which is probable an expletive, it sounds pretty bad and although there is no way she would fight,I still feel I have to apologise for her to the owner of the dog, this is not the sort of behaviour I want, there is no need for her to react like this, is there any way to stop this? I don't want to turn into the sort of owner who says "be good" to their dog every time it meets another. Any suggestions? Regards Jane
I wouldn't, personally, tell her off for telling someone that she doesn't like her bum being sniffed

Not all bitches do. I had one that hated it. The other dogs learnt to stay away from her rear end ;) Like yours she never actually attacked another dog, she just didn't want to be sniffed. But it was alright for her to sniff another dogs behind :)
i am a bitch i just love my bum being sniffed!

Personally I'd leave her to it - she's not doing any harm, and is doing the best job of telling the others to mind their manners.

Tara has a low 'pester' tolerance as well :) She's just telling the, usually male, dog that she'd rather that they didn't :D

I agree totally with the other posters

You girl sounds like mine - she has no time for 'rude dogs' - she gives plenty of body language signals that she's not happy - stiffening, turning away and if the dog persists, she snaps - usually going for their noses :( It's the doggy equivilant of a smack in the face for a man who persists in groping a woman in my view.......
However, I do try and limit the number of times she gets to do it by avoiding dogs who look like they might be 'rude', and training a 'watch me' command which distracts her from what they are doing....

In that case I won't worry about it, its really because some owners don't understand doggy speak and get upset, the dogs understand and back off.thanks for your help.Jane

Agree with all the advice given in earlier posts. You should stand up for your girl, there is no reason why she should put up with being "sniffed up" if she doesn't like it. It's so typical, humans taking offence if their dog is told off

My girls don't like other dogs sniffing their behinds without their permission. Permission might be given, but it's on their terms!
Don't feel guilty for your girl being capable of leting her opinion be known.

Try looking it from the dog's point of view, she is merely reacting the same way you would if a stranger came right up behind you and pinched your bum, lifted your skirt etc! (Of course I may not object if it was say Pierce Brosnan subjecting me to this "rudeness) :D :D
Hi Jane
I have a male tibetan terrier who is nearly 3 & sounds very much like your dog, he does'nt like other dogs sniffing him or going near his back end.
He likes other dogs but when he sees another TT he goes wild.
Tibetan terriers seem to be getting very popular especially in this area there are currently 10 near where I live.
