Can carriers of this disease be identified by DNA or blood tests . Although I have been reading about the disease I cannot find the answer .

I have been contacted and told that there is no screening for this .
I have heard that one of my pups has died at age 8 months .The vet has told the owner that she died of a hireditory disease that black cockers die from !.The owner purchased 2 bitches both sisters . Before I find the vet and speak with him I really could do with some helpfull info from anyone on the forum . I have checked with 2 other owners and their pups are ok .
Money is not the issue , I feel dreadfull for the owners to loose a pup . My worry is possible FN , I have other pups out there that may be at risk if it is FN .Are there other diseases that it could have been . The owners told a friend that at first the vet thought it was a poison related illness
,but it went on for 5 or 6 weeks before she died .
I appreciate any replies as I am very upset and cannot speak to the vet until at the earliest tomorrow .

As far as I am aware there is no test at present, however the breed club keeps records of affected dogs and their pedigrees which information is available to those planning a mating.  By this method the number of incidents have been reduced so I would urge you to inform the club if the vet confirms this diagnosis.

Thanks Isabel, I am in Mallorca with dogs of spanish pedigree , I will obviously check this out and have the remaining parent sterilized if need be .

I am sure the British Club and the Spanish Club will appreciate any information you receive from the vet as many pedigrees cross over these days.

There's also a breed record holder on that site who you can contact and you may find that dogs in your pedigree are known.  It's worth e-mailing her and finding out.

Sorry to hear about your puppy.
