Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Crufts Benching Question
- By paulaj [gb] Date 04.02.06 11:24 UTC
Hi all, I'm hoping you can give me some advice on a stupid question i know 8-)
We weren't sure of the crate size we could use for benching in Crufts for our GBGV, we contacted Banner Down (the benching firm, think thats what they were called) and they gave us the size we could use.
Our crate is about 2 cm's to big by our measurements do you think this amount would make a difference?  We did size it up at the Manchester Show and it was fine for there.
Thanks in advance.

There is a minimum bench size for each breed laid down by the KC, this is what Bannerdown would have quoted you. Some shows give breeds a bigger bench, will depend on how much room they have, what other breeds have that bench on other days and whether they adjust the size for each day. Bear in mind Crufts have a huge entry generous benches may not be possible. If yr crate is 2cm over minimum bench size dont bank that it will fit just because it did at Manchester. If you need to crate yr dog get a smaller crate.

Hi Paula,
What size is your crate?  Last year I used a 36" soft crate and it fitted perfectly.

Sarah.

It's a 36 crate like yours, we did buy the next size down but JJ wouldn't fit in it.  LOL the poor thing couldn't even get through the door!  We've got a metal and a soft crate (both the same size)  He likes his crate when we go to shows it seems to calm him and give him some respite.

Thanks as well for your replies 8-)

Did someone say you can't use a soft crate at Crufts, must be wire?
- By paulaj [in] Date 04.02.06 19:09 UTC
This rings a bell about soft crates as i think somewhere i've read that you can't put a cover over the wire crates either.  I'll have a look round and see where i've read it.

That was lifted in the end so you can use soft crates at Crufts.

If it isn't thewidth that is over then it won't be aproblem by being 2cm over the depth of the bench.

LOL i know what will happen, i'll end up taking them all 8-)
If you see a couple who look as if they are setting up a trade stand and have a dog with them you'll know it's us 8-)

Just the topic I was looking for.  I am wanting to purchase a soft crate for the ecaxt same use.  Does anyone know the size to buy to fit on the bench (as good a fit as possible though) I was looking at the Croft ones?  (I have a gsp sized dog).  Thanks in advance.  Lynne x
