Topic Dog Boards / General / Dog dandruff?

My puppy keeps getting dandruff & the more i brush him to get it off the worse it gets. I wash him with sensitive dog shampoo & I don't do it too often. He's black so it really stands out. Any suggestions?

Hi how old is your puppy...it could be Cheyletiella if you brush it and its still there.. I would ask your vet to take a look..
And they will recommend a good shampoo for the puppy..good luck

He's 5 months. I'll ask the vet, thanks

My puppy is nearly 5 months old and we are having the same problem.  I have stopped brushing him as he seems to be so much worse when I do.

A mix of burns & chappi dried

Burns did that to mine too.  I don't think there is much oil in the food.

Try adding a capsule of EPA fish oils with omega 3, you can get them from health food shops.  If this doesn't do it I personally would change your complete food to one with a higher oil content.

Don't forget the weather, i have a black dog and his coat is exceptionally glossy he's fed well with added oils but going out in the cold weather/damp/wet then coming home to a red hot heated house can cause this for him. (Usually lasts till it warms up)

Thanks. It's probably a mix of the two then, the food and the weather. As mine has a really glossy fine coat which lots of people have made comments on previously, so I  was confused when he started getting  dandru & our house does get very hot. Thanks

try rubbing in gentlemens vaseline hair tonic too. Works a treat on my Dobe, in 24 hrs no more scurf.
