Hi
Does anybody know if there is anything you can put on your dogs pads to keep them soft? My boys pads are getting dry and cracking slightly.
Thanks

Hi Daisy,
Dont know if this helps..But I use Shaw's Paw wax its for protection on snow,ice,gravel,ashpalt.. I used it on Sibes mainly (conversely) in summer! to stop melted tar roads sticking to my dogs furry feet!
But my mum steals it to condition her whippets pads and she swears by it.
Neutrogena do a great 'Norwegian fishermans formula' Handcream, which has the consistancy of vaseline..thats great too.
Hope this gives you some ideas til' you get more suggestions
:D

Yep you can get it at Pets at Home, I use it for my girl and it's brilliant, Helps with rough and cracked pads and is a really good protector from ice and wet etc.

Hmm, perhaps I'll look for some. Never noticed any problems with limping, but my lot do have quite rough pads - I always assumed it was normal for dogs that got regular exercise on paths as well as grass! Shows how much I still have to learn! :-)

Hi LucyD,

If your guys aren't limping and don't have problems with cracked pads but they are just rough I wouldn't worry about it.  Your quite right it is normal for dogs pads to get rough when they are walked on roads or paths - it's natural protection, the pads develop a tough outer layer to protect from grit and gravel etc.  I don't do much in the way of road work with my girl so she doesn't have very tough pads and then when the weathers wet and cold they get a bit cracked and sore and the paw wax is great for that.  If yours don't have problems though I'd save your money :-) Although it's not expensive.
