how do you come up with an affix?
you ring the kennel club and tell them that you would like to start an affix. They will send you a form to fill in. You think of your choice and then you put your first choice in order of preference and then your second choice and third choice etc. If your first choice has been taken then they will grant you your second choice. If they have all been taken then you will need to fill in another form and think of a name that hasn't been taken. you need to pay for your affix. If your choice hasn't been taken then they will send you a certificate granting your affix. and then it is all yours. just out of interest what breed do you own?

rotties but they are just pets i was just intrested as i did not know how u get one.

Just in case you ring the Kennel Club, affixes are now known as Kennel Names - just so you know what form to ask for.
Hi,
You ring up the K.Club, ask them to send you the information on getting your own affix.
Then you have to decide on a Name that you would like to be called! that no-one eles has!!
They will ask you for a few names that you would like, then it goes before a panel, if they
agree with it, you are then granted your affix. The K.C. will give you the up to date costs.
Just be sure you have a small fortune in your bank to pay for it!!!

You can download the form from the Kennel Club website too.
it cost £70 and then an annual fee
Could be totally wrong but i wonder is the person is askin how do u come up with an affix, not how do you get and affix. Maybe they would just like help with how to pick one? Like i said could be wrong though :D
I agree with you wheaten mad. Most people put their names together and see what they come up with or an area where they live. Good luck in finding a affix name you will need a few in case the first is rejected

It's actually much more difficult to come up with an original word than you might think. I spent years trying to be clever, eventually submitted three good choices, or so I thought. Only to have them unceremoniously dumped. I got my 5th choice,(Trunorth),which was quite good going. Gwen submitted 30 odd words before having hers,(Watermark). accepted.

How much is annual fee? I'm also wondering whether you have to register an affix if you have puppies or only if you plan on becoming a breeder and have more than one litter?

if you look on the kennel club website it gives you all the info you need and the forms to download.
£17

You don't have to have an affix to register puppies but if you are thinking of breeding I think it is a good idea.
I registered my affix about 20 years ago, I was lucky, you only had to give 3 choices then and I got my first choice.

I got my second choice, and am glad I did, as don't like first choice now which was a comination of the bitches and studs registered names. My affix is the first half of my name followed by my foundation bitches call name.

I wanted to use the name of our website but had to stick 'EX' on the name before it was acceptable. My friends use their maiden names or combinations of their names and their dogs names, or part of the village they live in etc.
