- By danisparrow [gb] Date 02.02.06 16:10 UTC
Hi all, I have had quite a few people question me over whether or not to breed my pomeranian, she is a loverly size and of great quality, and i have myself often questioned whether i should consider breeding her.
She is now 2 1/2 yrs old and i was thinkin i should really start to get abit more info on breeding this bree of dog as i know it can be quite difficult to say the leaste. All i really need to know is what should i enquire about, what do i need to do for her and whether or not to breed her????
Now if i do breed her i must state this i would only be breeding her for myself and not selling the puppy's on, they will be kept as pets only.
Thanks for any advise givin and all comments will be read fully and taken into account.
Thanks dani :)

E-mail me at spanishwaterdogs@supanet.com  If you can send a photo that would be great.

One thing I will say is get yourself ready for a lot of heartbreak if you are thinking of breeding from your Pomeranian!

THey are a wonderful breed but one of the most difficult at whelping.  I have spent many a time over the last 26 years crying after pups have been born dead, pups have survived a week and died, mothers have had to have c-sections and then ended up with nothing afterwards and the most heartbreaking was one of my girls dropping down dead at 9 weeks into her pregnancy with no signs of any problems!

Edited to say is she KC registered etc.?
If I can be of help I will try my best.  They are a wonderful breed but you definitely need a strong heart!

I have a friend who has poms, and she has had a lot of heartache over the years, bitches needing c. sections and losing pups, biggest litter she has ever had was two pups. She very rarely sells any, keeps them all. Cost her a fortune in vet fees in the past 10 yrs. So I personally would think very, very carefully before breeding your bitch, its very hard to lose pups.
