Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / exercise after feeding

hello all!
Hoping that others can clear up a disagreement between me and the hubby on this one!
How long after feeding would you allow a dogs meal to settle before exercising them? Dogs are border collies, fed twice daily and their exercise sessions tend to be quite vigorous! With all the concern about bloat (although my breed isn't prone to this) I want to err on the side of caution. How long do others wait after feeding?
Thanks for any replies!!

I wait an hour after feeding my lot before taking them out. :)

Hi :)  all deep chested breeds have the potential to bloat regardless of age. I have Labs & don`t exercise them for at least 2hrs after feeding :)

I always leave an hour before, and at least an hour after feeding before any excercise. I have an English Mastiff. :-)

I leave at least an hour before my GSDs get fed if they,ve been road walked and two hours if they,ve been free running

That's the same rule I use too.

I can understand the reason for not exercising after feeding.  I always leave it at least an hour and half - but before food?  Surely in the wild a dog should be able to run and hunt and immediately eat it's kill?  I know we're talking domesticated breeds here, some of which won't be the same shape as wild dogs, but have we really altered them that much that they can't function as they should?  My hounds regularly used to catch rabbits and eat them straight afterwards.... what's the difference?
Just got me thinking thats all

Bear in mind the kill isn't immedieately after bringing down the prey it's after the kill & of course the meat is fresh that they eat not dried/tinned food & wild dogs eat skin bone & all. I don't think there has been a study into bloat/torsion in wild/feral dogs/wolves & the breeds prone to bloat & torsion are more deep bodied that most canines in the wild

I always let mine cool down / calm down after a walk before feeding, usually no more that 30 mins, and leave a good 2 hours after feeding to exercise.
