Just wondering if anyone knows how you go about turning dog hair ( clean , that is ) into items of clothing? Have heard about it but don't know how to do it!
Any ideas?

Thanks , Kate

LOL... Let me know when you find this out Kate,
as I have a Siberian Blowing his coat at the moment..I have brushed out enough to make a whole new dog!!
and its Still coming out thick and fast, so recyling it into a nice warm winter coat for someone else would be
Any takers??? :p hehehehehehe.

I have a knitted waistcoat made from my old Champion's coat.  She was a Rough Collie.  A friend spun it for me.  Many say that dog hair can't be spun on its own but mine is.
It's wonderfully warm but I've given up wearing it to dog shows because I got unwated attention from male dogs! :)

lol - that's one way of getting attention in the ring!!

I don't suppose you know how to spin it?

I have a spinning wheel and promised myself that I'd learn how to use it in my retirement.  So far, I'm a born again teenager, doing all the things that my parents wouldn't let me do, and don't have time for retirement persuits! ;)

There was a woman on Richard Hammonds 5 oclock show the other week that made articles of clothing out of dogs hair. It was only the double coated breeds. It showed her brushing out a dog and then spinning the fur on a spinning wheel. They then knit the 'wool' up in the usual manner. They had made hats scarves gloves socks jumpersd you name it.. so it can be done ..if you have a spinning wheel :)

If you contacted the show they would probably be able to put you in touch with the woman.

:cool:They can have all the fur they want from my two and are more than welcome to it.In a week id have enough to make jumpers for a small comunity. :D Thing is.......do they accept it when its coated in sheep poo,fox poo, pond water, dead fish, etc etc etc :D

A friend of mine spins he dogs hair (border collies, blue merle) into wool on her spinning wheel and then knits it into jumpers but I think she mixes it with sheeps wool as well.

I'd love to do something with my dogs coat as theirs is wool, it would be interesting to see what it turns out like.  Not so sure though after they've been to the water park, rolled in fox poo, dug the garden in search for Australia as there are times when they sure do smell :d
