Topic Dog Boards / Health / Hamish back from the vets

Hi all,
Hamish went to the vets last night and he has diagnosed staphylococci infection of the skin, he said that he really didn't have it too bad and his skin looked really quite good, he has told me to bath him in Malaseb twice a week and has given him antibiotics and I am to take him back in 10 days to see how he is, he might have to stay on the antibiotics for another 10 or more days depending on how he is.  The vet said it could be an allergy but its more likely to be just an infection as he did have an ear infection about 3 weeks ago that was treated with drops but on thinking now the inside of his ear was very scabby and crusty but the drops seemed to clear it up, so perhaps that was the start of this infection.  I am really hoping it is just an infection and not the start of skin problems I couldn't bear the thought of him suffering.  He had a bath last night and I must admit does seem happier this morning so fingers crossed.  Thanks again to all of you who replied to me, I will get some fish body oil today from the health food shop.  Does anyone know of any treats that I could give Hamish that wont affect his skin (apart from carrot sticks which he already has) I would be very grateful if any of you experts has any tips.  Once again, many thanks X

Hi,

My girl has a very delicate tummy and can't have petshop treats - she also loves carrot sticks, I stick to natural things with no additives etc.  I don't know if this would be ok for your lad or not, but I get pigs liver from the butchers and cook it and she loves that, I don't coz it stinks but she does so I guess that's all that matters ! :-)  If you do try it just try very little bits to start with.

Hi Jenny,

Pleased to hear things are improving for the little guy :)  As to treats, the fact he can take chicken you could try chicken liver for treats.

regards, Teri :)
