Hes been really lethargic and shivering all day! I dont know whats wrong with him, he has lost his appetite too :( and all he wants to do is sleep but hes finding it hard to get comfy because he keeps shivering. Does anyone know what it might be? Its the kind of human flu symptoms but i dont know if a dog can get this. He hasnt got a runny nose or anything, just really lethargic and shivery!

I just looked up about dogs and colds, it says dogs can,t catch the common cold virus from humans, he hasn't eaten anyhing strange has he? sorry not much help I know, it is cold out there, I can't see why dogs don't get run down with stuff just like we do,I hope it passes,or you know,if in doubt, call the vet.
Ash.

Hi, can you take his temperature? He sounds like he`s going down with something, if he can`t get comfy he`s probably in some discomfort. It`s not normal for a dog to shiver I`d give your vet a ring asap.

Hi how's Bruno doing:confused:
- By Brunodog Date 29.01.06 19:20 UTC
HI, hes still not well :(, i gave him a biscuit and it took him ages to eat it, hes still just laying down and shivering, even though weve been covering him with a blanket! He doesnt seem any better or any worse but at least hes eaten something. I dont think its anything hes eaten because he hasnt been out of my sight for him to eat anything unusual. I am going to wait til the morning and if he is no better i will take him to the vet. Thanks for your concern, i just cant think of what it could be though!

He`s taken a long time to eat probably cos he`s not feeling well. I really do think you should ring your vet :(

hi- i would just call the vet-talk to him over phone. he doesnt look like he's fitting at all- it may be the early stages or after effects of a fit?
call vet-ask him.

oh and i wouldnt leave him over night anyway, its just that the other day a dog came in drowsy and shakey- he then fitted for 3 hours, - i'd just call the vet now just incase- you can never be too careful? :)

my pup shivers when he's hungry:rolleyes:He's teething at the moment and although he's hungry, he's turning his nose up at his kibble and sits shivering instead. Hope Bruno is feeling better today. x

Please get him to the vets a.s.a.p. Shivering in dogs if they aren't cold can be a sign of them being in pain (that's probably why he can't get comfortable) and could be any number of things from not so serious to literally a matter of life and death. It's not worth taking the risk.

Update on Bruno. I took him to the vets and she took his temperature, felt his abdomen, run her fingers down his spine, checked his heartbeat and couldnt find anything wrong with him. She said his temperature is normal but borderline, so she gave him an antibiotic injection and an anti imflammatory injection and also empties his anal glands. Hes been a bit better today and only shivering on and off which i told the vet, she said this is probably a result of a fever and said the injection she gave him should sort it, however she said if hes no better tomorrow then i should take him back so they can do blood tests! Fingers crossed he will be ok. Thanks for your advice everyone x
