
I suspect pedigrees cost more to insure for the two reasons mentioned so far:
1) they are more likely to be stolen
2) they are more likely to have been bred for profit with no regard for health out of a puppy mill or home breeder
I belong to a U.S. forum for my breed, Cairns. Well bred Cairns are one of the healthiest breeds around, which is one of the reasons I originally chose them. The Cairn forum is full of messages about Cairns with horrible skin allergies and various serious medical conditions - ever single one of these reports is from a Cairn bought from a pet shop. You would think people get the message, but they do not. Insurance companies do.
