Hi, This is my 1st Post!
We have a 3 month old Beagle, She is on Beta Puppy Mix (Which she likes). What do people think is the best dry mix on the market! As she is our only dog we doin't mind spending the extra pennys each month. We have been told that Beta is mid range food.
Any Suggestions.
Thanks, Tamzyn

You will probably get hundreds of different suggestions and all of us will think ours is the best ;) but my personal opinion is that the best food is usually the one that suits your dog best. And there are any number of dogs who happily thrive on the cheapest nosh!
I'm someone who doesn't like junk human food and has a "thing" about factory farming so I prefer to choose puppy food that isn't stuffed full of colours and additives. My 6 month old has been on Burns up to now although there are many dogs out there who it doesn't suit and the choice is very limited. My pup is now bored with their one-flavour complete puppy food and to my eyes is just a tad on the lean side so I'm going to switch to JWB. However, he has always been given a combination of complete food and home-prepared fresh meat and poultry and (touch wood) we've never had any digestive problems.

My personal preference is along the lines of: Burns, James Wellbeloved, Wafcol Salmon and Potato (NOT the other Wafcol flavours), Almo Nature or Arden Grange.
Here are their websites:

Since you have a puppy, I would advise against Burns for now. It is an excellent food with good quality ingredients, but tends to be on the light side, calorie wise, and I know of many people with puppies which have not put on weight while being fed it. Their adult foods are excellent though and when she is full grown you might want to reconsider it.

Hi Tamzyn,
Welcome to Champdogs I hope you enjoy the forum. I am a fellow Beagle owner as you can tell by my user name. There are a few Beagle owners on here so feel free to ask any questions you might have.
You will get loads of different suggestions when it comes to feeding, I feed mine a mixture of James Wellbeloved and Nature Diet. I have used Burns & Nutro in the past and found them to be all quite similar but found JWB easier to find in Pet Shops.
I hope you are having loads of fun with your pup, they are the cutest puppies in the world! ( in my opinion )
H :)
Hi there
my lab pup has a mixture of JWB and nature diet. She doesnt like just dry food - theyre all different i guess. She eats it all and is a nice size, healthy and lively x

I have fed Beta for several years now with very good results. Not sure what mid range means, does it mean price? There is no such thing as mid range nutrition that I know of, it either meets the requirements of the dogs or doesn't, in which case you soon know it :) In my experience price will not dictate whether that requirement is met either, humans do just as well on brisket, peas and apples as they do on rump, asparagus and mangoes it just costs them more :)
hi, i use JWB lamb & rice , tried Beta puppy but some pups got bloated on this, but not all . i guess you should use the one which your dog enjoys and seems to suit him . i dont think the highest priced item always means its the best !!! :)

I feed Arden grange with naturediet. Tried Beta once it made my dogs vomit, lose weight and have diarreah.
My interpretation of Low grade, midrange and high grade food would be the ingredients. Bakers for example is definately low grade IMHO,because of all the junk it contains,Beta is only slightly better but not much,i wouldn't go as far to call it even a mid range food. Then there are foods such as Arden grange,Burns,JWB etc. who use high grade, named ingredients without all the chemicals and by-products etc etc found in the low grade foods.

Yeah, I agree with that :) Shame our little girl does best and really likes the Burns puppy food and JWB Junior though cos its costs a small fortune
Anyone in Lancing that feeds Burns? I have a part opened bag of Burns puppy/mini 7kg. My pup didn't do well on it.
