Hi can you tell me why on the Big Brother show, some things are blocked out i.e Adidas and brands on packets etc., but not others, it's just a comment daughter asked last night and I immediately said it's advertising, but she then pointed out they don't do it on all ?  does anyone know why?
- By Isabel Date 26.01.06 10:48 UTC
Can't say I have noticed any brands.  What have you seen them on?
- By CherylS Date 26.01.06 10:51 UTC
Don't know about products but I thought George Galloway was making a bit of a statement by wearing the top that had CUBA across it.
- By HuskyGal Date 26.01.06 10:53 UTC
I see what you mean... is that why Denis had a piece of black tape across his 'Gone Butch' (Von Dutch ;) ) cap?
They put white labels over the coke, beer etc... but the washing up liquid and the carex hand soap didnt have labels covering their identity.
- By Isabel Date 26.01.06 10:54 UTC
You people have eyes like hawks   I suppose it could be who has paid up and who hasn't ;)
PS BTW Chantelle to win!
- By HuskyGal Date 26.01.06 10:58 UTC
Its probably more an indication of the entertainment value of the 'contestants' that my attention is more drawn to the washing up bottle!!! ;)

All this from someone who vowed not to watch this show!! called it chewing gum for the mind TV ...and is now addicted to it!!! there's no hope for me!!
- By CherylS Date 26.01.06 11:01 UTC
From the snippets I've seen I wouldn't mind Chantelle, Preston or Maggot winning.

As for the advertising it's an interesting point.  Is attention being drawn to the product more because it has its name covered?  Attention is being drawn to products because of the obvious covering up which might then be causing viewers to work out the brands. A little bit of reverse psychology?  I agree about the uncovered products.  They have probably paid a fortune for the 'advertising'

I need Barrymore to win - I've got a tenner on him with Ladbrokes :D
- By craigles [gb] Date 26.01.06 10:57 UTC
Yes this is what we mean only certain brands are covered others aren't just wondered if anyone knew why, only one of those silly things bugging me!
- By Balloo [gb] Date 26.01.06 11:06 UTC
Maybe its because the brands who are donating the stuff to be used in the house for free dont get the name covered up so its like free advertising in return, and the stuff big brothers production company have to pay for get covered up so its not free advertising, if that makes sense?
- By HuskyGal Date 26.01.06 11:10 UTC
Lol.. the over preening of the accryllic hair can get a bit annoying, but yep! Chantelle would get my vote simply for the Irony of the only non 'Celeb' winning 'Celeb'BB. :D
Anyway in most cases she's acted with much better grace than those that should've known better!
I do love Preston and Maggot too.... bit wishy washy at times though.
- By Isabel Date 26.01.06 11:42 UTC
I don't think Maggot has done enough (or is good looking enough :)) to get himself noticed by the young girls that do the bulk of the voting.  Preston has done too much :D I don't think a lot of those girls will appreciate his behaviour with Chantelle when he has a girlfriend at home although it seems innocent enough to me and he has been a bit two faced at times which leaves Chantelle.  I do think she deserves it though.  She daft in an uneducated way but she's not silly.  She seems genuinely nice and has shown great integrity, for example when she wanted to throw the whole banking task rather than tell a lie, Preston showed no such reservation ;). Galloway described her as weak but she is anything but, standing up to the bullying with great strength even without the vocabulary or articulation of the older members.  She even seems to be able to use her natural good nature as a weapon when necessary, laughing, very genuinely, in the face of such attacks.
I'm not sure what career lies ahead of her if she does win though, she can't even really sing .  Maybe she could just be a "people's favourite" like Jade such is the nature of modern celebrity  :D
- By earl [gb] Date 26.01.06 13:42 UTC
It's because it's considered to be advertising and they're not allowed to do that.
- By Sullysmum Date 26.01.06 14:09 UTC
Sort of on the subject and sorry to hijack but why does the sound go on and off on the very late BB?
- By Isabel Date 26.01.06 14:11 UTC
If they are talking about matters that need to be looked at by the legal eagles they cut it, for instance if they are talking about someone in the outside world.
- By Charanda [de] Date 26.01.06 14:11 UTC
I think its because they start to discuss things that they're not allowed to - they have contracts drawn up saying that they shouldnt' discuss other celebreties etc etc and I think that they cut the sound off if they're talking about stuff they shouldn't be.
- By Charanda [de] Date 26.01.06 14:10 UTC

- By voors [gb] Date 27.01.06 09:41 UTC
Did anyone else notice on last nights show the time that dennis was evicted?? He went out at 10:29 but it was supposedly live at 11:05
I did wonder why on Wednesday on E4, when it was supposed to be CBB live at 10:30 the voice over said due to unforseen circumstances we can't go live to the house, obviously now I know it was because we'd already know that dennis had gone.
- By CarolW [gb] Date 27.01.06 11:58 UTC
Chantelle does my head in.  If she says "Oh God" one more time or flicks her hair again I will not be responsible for my actions.  I can be a little devil when roused.

I know exactly what you mean!! She cannot stop pulling at those awful Barbie doll extensions! It is driving me mad watching her!
- By hairypooch Date 27.01.06 12:41 UTC
Just a stupid observation here  But has anybody noticed that the first thing Chantelle does when she wakes up, before getting out of bed, is to put her make up on:rolleyes:

What must Prestons girlfriend be thinking watching him and Chantelle twittering around each other all the time. Me thinks that he will have some explaining to do when he gets out
- By Tracey123 [gb] Date 27.01.06 14:04 UTC
And also when they went to the house to evict Dennis chantelle sat up and was messing with her hair! We've seen you when you first get up love - dont sweat it. I sometimes think they dont know  how often they are actually watched.

Do feel sorry for Prestons girlfriend though. If that was my man Id be having stern words!!!
- By Isabel Date 27.01.06 14:57 UTC
With Chantelle or Preston? ;)
- By CherylS Date 27.01.06 15:27 UTC
Men are weak - sorry men but you are :) and don't think you can use that as an excuse!
- By LJS Date 27.01.06 16:13 UTC
No not all men are weak as my OH occasionally says no to me :eek: :D :D

I think I now want Faggot oh sorry I mean Maggot to win :D :D

- By Melodysk [gb] Date 28.01.06 08:07 UTC
Well ..poetic justice or what? *Celebrity* Big Brother ...won by an unknown, ROFL
- By sandrah Date 28.01.06 14:16 UTC
I could have strangled her with her hair extensions everytime she said "Oh my God".
- By CherylS Date 28.01.06 15:35 UTC

>I could have strangled her with her hair extensions everytime she said "Oh my God".

Nevertheless she does come over as natural and down to earth like she said.  I didn't see much of BB but what I did see I think showed that she handled herself very well and in dignified manner compared to the "grownup professionals"  Doesn't seem to be anything false about her - well, except the hair extensions :D  I saw her internview and thought she was extremely diplomatic and sensible when answering questions about Preston.  She could so easily have put her foot in it and made things worse as far as their interactions were concerned.

At the end of the day I know that the "Oh my God" offends people but when you put it in perspective and think about the nasty, vile, vindictive and spiteful things that were said by the others to manipulate and bully I think Chantelle could be excused.
