can anyone confirm thereis a show on at maidstone on the 29th Jan and what time it starts?
Im want to go and spectate as im thinking of showing my rough collie, some one on champ dogs told me about it but i cant find any further info about it.

I don't know about the 29th, but there is definately one on the 5th Feb with Rough Collie classes. Judge is Terry Thorn so should get a good entry,
thanks for your reply, where would i get details of all the local shows?
Hi, Most are advertised in Dog World or Our Dogs, weekly newspapers out on Fridays but you can usually pick up leaflets at most shows.
Yes there is an open show this Sunday 29th January at The Agricultural Hall, Lockmeadow Road, Maidstone, It is the Darford & District Canine Society. Judging is scheduled to start at 10.00 am. I am in it in AV Working. Hope this helps
Thank you charles, will definetly be coming to that one, ive never been to a show before
so am looking forward to it
By the way im showing my complete ignorance but what is av working?? which dog will you be showing and we can look out for you?
Any Variety Working are for dogs with no specific breed classes in the Working Group. I have a Giant Schnauzer that I am showing this time. Most shows are judged on the Group System, Terrier, Working, Pastoral, Toy, Gundog and Utility. There are also Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes which as it says any KC registered dog can enter. I hope you find this a little helpful.
thanks charles, its a bit of minefeild , will i pick up all this info at ringcraft?
i got a scedule for the london and provincial collie show in march and the application form
was a tad confusing!!
If you take your schedule to Ring Craft I am sure someone will help you fill it in. Basically, You put in the Entry Fees part 1 1st Entry per dog Non-Members @ (for example £4.00), then if you enter into more than one class the number of how many other classes you are going to enter i.e. if you have a puppy you can put him/her into a puppy breed class as well as the AV Patoral puppy class, AV minor puppy (if 6 - 9 months) or AV puppy (6-12 months) You can also order and pre-pay for a catalogue (optional) Then the total amount payable to the society is what you have to send to the person on the form where it usually says Entries and Fees must be prepaid and sent to:
You should then Fill in the Registered Name of your Dog (on your kc registration certificate), your dogs breed, sex full date of birth in figures, the name of your breeder, your dogs fathers name and your dogs mothers name (all on your KC registration certificate) then you put in the numbers of the classes you are entering. Usually you only enter one class per class classification. Most exhibitors only enter one class as if beaten they are not able to continue to the Best of Breed, or Best Puppy in Breed. Which you then can if you win go on to enter the Best in Show or Best Puppy in show where you compete against all the other winners of the breed and AV classes. (this is very basic information, if you speak to someone at your ring craft, you are more than likely to find people very helpful they can explain this to you in more detail and can explain how you can get your Junior Warrant, or Show Certificate awards which are based on points earned at shows judged in the group system.
Do come and speak to me on Sunday, our ring will probably be outside and judged after lunch.

I know its obvious to anyone showing dogs ....but to those who are going for the first time - the "outside rings" are in the carpark beside the building with the canteen/toilets. The inside rings are ...inside :D
The Committee, who will have schedules/catalogues sit inside the building ;)
Margot

If the weather is bad they are inside the covered car park, outside if good weather, rings are along the back of the building.
Agreed :) Only just found your posts - I'm still at the starting post, and you're at ready - set - go!
Much luck to you both
Sandra
Thanks Sandra, nice getting a bit of support from those with more experience
Thank you Charles, and good luck for sunday, i will look out for yoy so if you see a wee dumpy lady with two wee boys looking a bit lost that will be me!!

Hi Trina,
If you have any questions, Collie specific or other, feel free to email me and will do my best to help.
Stephen Clark of the Derbypark Collies is judging tomorrow at Maidstone - he's doing Collies and Shelties, and he's got a nice entry for you to watch.
Feel free to grab him after his classes, tell him you're a newbie and Marina said he should have a chat with you about showing for 5 minutes and give you some tips. He's a very nice man, and although he'll be dying for a cup of tea and a ciggie, I'm sure he'll have a chat.
M.
