Did anyone else see the article in yesterdays paper on 'jackapoos'.Its no wonder these crosses are taking off when irresponsible newspapers run articles saying how they are bred to have a wooly coat that is suitable for allergy sufferers :eek::mad:

More and more recently you see in Newspapers, Mags on the internet is articles actually promoting this intentional cross breeding nonsense, some of these articles are on Dog websites.

More and more over the past six months these types of dogs are becoming so popular in the UK. I really wish we could educate more people that this type of intentional cross breeding is wrong, I accept that accidents happen and some dogs are crossed for a purpose for working etc. I don't have a problem with that type of breeding as the dogs have a purpose.

Anybody intentionally cross breeding to make these over priced cross breeds are very irresponsible, they can only be in it for the money.

If they want a cross breed why don't they go down to there local rescue centre which will be over loaded with poor dogs desperate for loving homes.

As we have discussed on this forum many times there are many many reasons as to why this type intentional cross breeding is wrong.

This whole thing makes me so sad & angry.

Anybody got any ideas on how to educate people to avoid buying these types of puppies and put people off breeding them???

I dont think you ever will.  I had someone ring me up the other day to ask did I ever let my dog breed with labs as she had a 9 year old lab and wanted to mate her with a dalmatian as she had what she called a dallydor and wanted another one.  Sadly I spent 20 minutes on the phone explaining that the dog will never be exactly like her other one and in the end put her onto the secretary of the BDC as she was not listening to me:mad:

Oh my another one! You must have the patience of a saint, I don't think I would have stayed on the phone long enough to be polite.

A Dallydor !

It's so frustrating as some people you spend ages explaining to them why its wrong and they still don't get it! I makes you want to give up! I don't want to give up on trying to educate people but recently I have spoken to soo many people lacking in basic common sense.

Yes I saw that ad as well in the Daily Record and its repeated to day saying ,quote from paper "By popular request, we are reprinting the picture of the Jackadoodle, the cross between a Jack Russell and a Poodle, whose fluffy coat doesn't trigger an allergic reaction.  One complaint though, if your crossing a poodle with a jack russell why call it a jackadoodle? We think a poossell sounds much better. "  This is on the Pat Roller Page of the Daily Record.  We should all e mail the paper to complain.

I don't think 'designer dog' fever has quite taken off in my area (thankfully) as I looked in the free ads today and didn't see one stupidly named dog in there. Funnily enough, there was an ad for a Lab X Dal (7 years old) and a litter of Pom Xs but not tagged with silly names.

What is really obvious though is the fallout from the Staffy population explosion. The free ads are littered (pardon the pun ) with ads for Staffy pups (9 wks+) and young dogs. The going rate for these dogs appears to be around the £50 mark (no mention of KC reg on any of them). Obviously they have been bred by people who saw £££ and then couldnt actually find buyers for the pups when the litter arrived. Now they are stuck with several boisterous pups, eating them out of house and home and no profit to show for it....hopefully that'll put them off breeding any more litters.

And fancy using a Jack Russell, of all breeds, to create this latest abomination in cross breeding! Only anyone expecting a "non-allergic" poodle could be in for a very challenging shock depending on which of the breed characteristics come out top!
