This is one of the daft questions but I think the wording in MO is not great.
For dogs who have not won a cc or 3 or more First prizes at Open shows and champs.
( MP, SMP. P and SP classes excepted whether restricted or not)
Now does this mean that if you have won 4 firsts in open you cannot enter. The word excepted is a strange one.
Also this may also be a silly question does it still count if there was only one dog in the class?

I called the SKC and they said it was OK but I am thinking it may not be and I was chatting tonight to someone that said it was not OK.
Then I got chatting to someone else who said the show ring is the bitchest place on earth and if you do one thing wrong you have had it LOL
Pam
I agree with you Pam, it is ambiguous as is everything else in the KC rule book. But what it means is that if you have won 3 classes at Open or Championship Shows (other than in Minor Puppy, Puppy or Special Puppy(i.e. at Crufts Special Puppy is up to 14 months old), which means wins in Junior or above) then you are not eligible for Novice Classes. It makes no difference whatsoever how many dogs were in the class. If you were to enter and won the class then you would probably have the award taken away from you by the KC and it would be announced in the Kennel Gazette.

Thanks Jayne that is what I thought my dog has 3 first prizes although 1 only had her in it.
I will cal the SKC as when I called and asked them they daid it would be ok as it was not 4 but it says 3 or more.
I better change my entry, plus I never realised till tonight that Novice ins a non qualifier for crufts not that I am thinking baout Crufts but nice to dream LOL
Thanks

It means, no more than a CC, or 3 class wins but not counting wins in MP, SMP, P, SP. In other words wins in puppy classes no matter what don't count but any other wins whatever do. Clear as mud. Ja:)kie

Thanks jackie, I thought I had got the hang of it LOL. It is a bit confusing I also wouls like to ask.
My wee bitch is 12 months just she has not done a champ yet. Is she better in PGB as she has not won 5 or more wins or JB.
I think this is where it gets tricky as there are so many classes and they qualify for most of them.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Pam

Always enter the lowest elligible class, you can still enter the next if you so wish!
In Junior she will be up against her own age group of 12 to 18 months. In Post Graduate she is likely to also be up against exhibits several years old, though if they are still in Post Graduate they may not have done a huge amount of winning, or have been shown little.
If your breed is numerically small I would put her in both classes, for the experience, and for more competition. If it is a numerically strong breed with huge entries I would just enter Junior.

It basically neans that once you have won three firsts above the puppy classes at either an Open or Champ show then you are no longer elligible for novice. the restricted means classes restricted to say a colour variety of the breed (usuallly at breed club shows). In other words 3 wins in Junior or higher in any breed or variety class you are out. In numerically small breeds I think it is a daft class, as baby puppies have often won out of it, as often have to compete in Junior or above. Only first prizes are a win!

Thanks Barbara, ( I can't call you Brainless) LOL
I thought I had grasped it 100% but it is confusing a bit. Nothing is straight forward in show business LOL so they say. I am getting there though.
I changed her to JB which is where I thought she probably should be in the forst place until I phoned the SKC. LOL
My youngest puppy will be 7 months and have entered him in MPD but I didn't want to as at the last show there were 10 in MPD and 1 in PD so you can't really do it 100% right.
We will see how it goes it is my first champ show. I have held off and held off. Been doing quite a few open but it is a bit disapointing when you travel 50 miles and your dog is the only one of it's breed there.
I have been worried a bit about showing when your dogs breeders are there watching as you want to do your best in front of them and also the grooming involved in Westies. I don't want my dogs breeders thinking " what has she done to they dogs " LOL
Once I get the first one out the way hopefully I will be fine.
Saying that LOL I got my hubby to take pictures of them lastnight in their standing poses and they were awful LOL.. I wouldn't have picked them..
Thanks again for all your help

Pam, with a youngster I think the pup who should be considered and if under 9months then MP is the best class, the judge will know what they are looking at if you put a young pup in to puppy class then they will be against dogs upto 12 months old. Winning is not important with such a young dog, making sure it enjoys the day is, so untill you have more experiance stick to the lowest class you can. Ja:)kie

Holly is only 7.5mths old and she's entered into minor puppy where possible, otherwise she ends up in puppy classes.
I was always told to enter the youngest class possible and the stake clasees to give her experience with larger groups of dogs.

Thank all of you just thought I would get a few opinions and feelings. I htink it takes a bit time to find your feet and ge the best way to do things.
Soem of the classes are a lttle odd and to me seem to slightly over lap but I have no doubt someone has a reason for them and likewise suit some exhibitors.
Well it is a start..
I will take my time with it and learn as I takie it in my stride.
