Just want to know if anyone suffers from any food/other allergies.

I have never been allergic to anything in my life.  5 months ago I started having lots of swellings, normally affecting my lips (major trout pout   :D  ) and tongue.  It is also happening to my eyes.  This morning I woke up with one eye completely swollen shut.  It is still swollen despite taking my tablets prescribed by the doctor  and piriton.

I have my allergy clinic appointment at Addenbrookes Hospital next week, but I am not even sure I am actually allergic to anything.  I don't itch or anything and it doesn't always happen when I have eaten.  Also having kept a food diary, there isn't even anything that links.

Do these sound like normal allergic reaction?

BTW this happens at least twice a week and could be anywhere on my face.  Even the side of my head and ear has swollen!

For a while a year or so ago I started noticing that, after I'd eaten an apple, my lips, mouth and tongue felt as though I'd had a very hot curry. I'm fine again with them now, luckily.

Since my daughter had meningitis she has become allergic to sticking plasters of any sort. They say that it was caused by constant use over a long period of time.
My 14 year old son and my 4 year old son are allergic to penicillin and will go into shock if they injest any.
Lastly my 9 year son is highly allergic to bee and wasp stings and we have to carry an Epipen with us at all times. He has minutes to get an injection before he stops breathing.
Hmmmmmm,lemme think,thats about it :D

I have a list of allergies as long as your arm (and that's only the ones I know about as I develop different ones all the time  :( ), so I won't bore you with them all.

Most of my allergies are triggered by environmental factors, the obvious and common ones being animal fur (particularly cats & horses but some dogs as well) and dust. Exposure to certain chemicals (in household detergents etc) can set me off too. I had a horrible time when we were renovating our current house due to the constant exposure to dust and spores produced by the damp/wet rot that infected the whole house. I honestly felt like I was going to die on a couple of occasions...eyes swollen shut, sinuses totally blocked, throat swollen to near closure etc. On a positive note, I think that period acted as a kind of exposure therapy as my dust allergy seems to have calmed a bit since :)

I have on occasions reacted badly to food. The most violent reaction was to prawns many years ago so I've avoided them since. I do tend to avoid shellfish in general but have pinched the odd mussel (can't resist 'em!) of OH's plate in restaurants and haven't come to any harm so far.... I have experienced swollen lips/burning sensation around the mouth on several occasions. Again, I am 95% sure that it could be attributed to chemicals (in toiletries/detergents/lip balm/lip gloss etc.) and I try to buy only organic fruit and veg as I believe pesticides on certain produce were causing a reaction on occasions.

I have suffered the swollen eyes you describe many times. In my case I was able to eventually pin it down to being heavy handed with moisturiser when applying it before bed or using a moisturiser too rich for the eye area. I would wake up barely able to see out of one eye (or both on occasions). I can't remember who told me that it might be over-use of moisturiser that caused it but when I sought out a gentle product formulated for eyes, the problem decreased dramatically.

I do hope the allergy testing sheds some light on what is causing your particular symptoms. It's no fun having allergies in the first place and even less so when you don't know what is causing them :(

My 11 year old daughter is allergic to cashew nuts and pistachios but we have to avoid all nuts due to cross contamination.  She has never eaten a nut.  We only found out when she ate Sacla Pesto sauce (it contains a very small amount of cashews) and she nearly died.  We now carry an epipen everywhere we go and she also has a Medic Alert bracelet.

If you go on the GMTV website they were dealing with this today and they advise what to eat and drink for a while and then how you may be able to eat what you are allergic to, it was really interesting.

I am allergic to ironing :D :D.  No seriously I am allergic to lots of scented things, have to be very careful about deodrants, washpowder, soaps etc.  I have a friend who is highly allergic to bee and wasp stings and has a epipen.

I think although not proven yet that I'm allergic to dark chocolate and Bailey's !  I've always sneezed etc. when drinking Bailey's or if I've ate dark chocolate but at the works Christmas do I had a small glass of Baileys, started sneezing and then started choking for about 5 minutes, felt such a fool as I cd. hardly breath, the thing is I love the taste of the drink and I'll be upset if I can't drink it again :d

I'm also allergic to strong scents, I can't go anywhere near a stall with pot pouri or anything because my eyes swell, my nose streams and I feel terrible.

Thanks for your replies everyone.

Have been doing some research on teh net and I have come across a condition called 'chronic Angioedema'.  I have 100 % of these symptons so i am gonna print them off and take it to the Hospital with me.  I am sure that is what I have got.

Fortunately I have no allergies to food and no one in my family or pets have an allergy bar mine to base metal.

Obviously this is a tragedy as I am only able to wear gold or platinum instead of costume jewellery!!!!!!!!1 :cool:

I can wear any old cheap c**p luckily :D

Shame I gotta give up some of my favourite foods :(  Although If I have suddenly become allergic to chocolate that would be a blessing :D

:D I hope they find a cause for your symptoms or even what settles them quickly if they don't :)
