Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Temperature in expecting bitches

I have read in 3 different books about the normal temp for expecting bitches. My CKCS, Tilly is on day 53 and her temp is 37.7 degrees C, the books I have read say that 38.6 is normal and will drop to approx between 36.6 and 37.2 degrees C 12-24 hrs before stage 2 of labour. I know that she has around 10 days left to go so I am alittle concerned that her temp is alittle low. I had to use a digital thermometer as I went to every chemist I could find (incl Boots and Superdrug) and nowhere sells the traditional style of thermometer anymore.

I thought I would ask your advice before phoning the vet as she is fit and well in herself and still has a huge appetite

Many thanks

Normal temp can vary between dogs, normal for some can be 38 which isn't far off 37.7 at all. :)
